IMO, he was one of the best right handed pitchers in the game. He threw one, no hitter and had four or five one hitters. What makes his won/loss record more impressive for me is that many of the teams he played on were not that good.
I think on average his teams overall went .499 during his career. Best and worst were both in his first 3 years. First year the Mets went 61-101 and then the Miracle Mets went 100-62 with a World Series. I think his teams only had 90+ wins 4 times in his career.
Very sad. I'm a HUGE St. Louis fan growing up I would listen to the games in our car at night on KMOX.
L. Brock was a great player and a true gentleman.
An interesting note here... Lou Brock faced Tom Seaver 157 times in his career (hit .250) with 21 K's. No batter faced Seaver more in their careers. No pitcher faced Brock more in theirs.
