Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver has been diagnosed with dementia and has retired from public life, his family announced in a statement through the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday.

Tom was one of my favorite players. He had Class.

He was a fantastic player for the Mets and Reds. I had the privilege of seeing him pitch in person at Riverfront Stadium several times. I read the report last night and hated to read it.
