⚾ 🥎 ⚾ Bama Baseball offseason moves and news...

Crimson Coverage's blurb there is a tad misleading since Steig didn't play this past season (recovering from TJ surgery). But he will be a very strong candidate for a weekend rotation spot, I'd imagine he's penciled in there already. Looks like he's got pretty good stuff, just hope he comes back healthy and ready to go.

Got a nasty fastball. We'll see how it translates here.

Things are winding down with portal moves, but still a lot of guys out there. Bama picked up another today... LHP Ashton Crowther. He pitched for South Carolina this past season, started out at Miami... he'll be a RS JR next spring.
  • Made 19 appearances with two starts for the Gamecocks in 2025
  • Was 2-2 with a 4.38 ERA and a save
  • Had 28 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched
  • Had a 3.05 ERA in SEC games

MLB Draft begins today (rounds 1-3), ends tomorrow (rounds 4-20). Obviously, to some degree it'll have an impact on Bama's 2026 roster, especially in terms of the signees. Some good news though is the whispers about Adams returning appear to be true, and possibly Fay as well. Here's an article from the T-News this am...

TUSCALOOSA — Alabama baseball's pitching staff is expected to keep at least one of its starters for the 2026 season, but if the Crimson Tide returns two, it'll come at a cost.

The 2025 MLB Draft has arrived, and until the 20th round concludes on Monday in Atlanta, Alabama's roster for next spring hangs in the balance.

On Saturday night, an American League scout told the Tuscaloosa News that left-handed pitcher Zane Adams is slated to return to Alabama for his junior season, saying the program "took care of" the starter financially.

Adams pocketed a pretty penny in NIL from UA to stay for the 2025 season, too. He opened weekend series' until a string of first-inning struggles led to the emergence of right-handed reliver Tyler Fay. Just days after the redshirt sophomore made first collegiate start against Mississippi State, Fay was asked to be the Friday starter against LSU and became a regular following his standout performance.

Fay made eight starts, and his rise attracted the attention of the majors, reportedly leaving the program in a position where it'll have to dish out a premium to see him come back.

MLB scout breaks down future of Alabama baseball starting rotation

"They're fighting to get Fay back, too," the source said. "I know they're trying to get Fay back."

Scouts like Fay's ability to keep a low pitch count. It's not all about flashy strikeouts, but the fact that he isn't afraid of contact. Better yet, he welcomes it. Fay uses his sinker − and his defense − to sit down batters and keep the Crimson Tide rolling. The 6-foot-5, 215 pounder from Nebraska can also provide clubs with length. As closer Carson Ozmer took the loss, Fay pitched a career-high six innings at Southern Miss in the NCAA Tournament and finished the season with a 4.69 ERA.

Even with Adams back, should Fay not return for the 2026 season, Alabama will have another big gap to fill after losing its ace.

Where will Alabama baseball's ace Riley Quick end up in 2025 MLB Draft?

In the months leading up to the draft, it was a given that righty Riley Quick was a goner. The scout confirmed the projections that Quick will go "day one" on Sunday.

"He's just big and athletic, throws hard. Up to 99 miles an hour," the scout said. "He's got a chance to be a starting pitcher."

MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo predicts Quick will go to the Yankees as the 39th pick. The Athletic's Keith Law has Quick going 26th overall to the Philadelphia Phillies while ESPN's Kiley McDaniel has the redshirt sophomore going 61st overall to the Kansas City Royals.

The AL scout anticipated on Saturday night that the Atlanta Braves would be the likely destination for the former football player who bounced back from Tommy John to see Alabama to its first 40-win season since 2002. In Mayo and Jim Callis' final predictions after midnight, they had the Braves taking Louisville right-hander Patrick Forbes, but Callis added Atlanta is "tied to more pitchers than most clubs," highlighting Quick despite projecting that he'll go 31st overall to the Baltimore Orioles.

However, as money matters evolve over the next 48 hours and "who's gonna be there that you never expected," the scout reminded that when the big day comes, nothing is guaranteed and anything can change.

There it is... Vaughn and staff played their cards really, really, well...
