Alabama takes game 1, 10-7! & straight SEC wins...

A little bit of a weird game... Alabama showed up early on offense scoring 10 runs in the first 2 innings, including 4 HR's (2 by Fowler). LJ Mercurius got the start for the Sooners and lasted only 1 1/3 innings after getting knocked around. He was relieved by his brother, Xander Mercurius, and he too was greeted rudley by the Bama bats... giving up 2 of Bama's HR's before he could get out of the 2nd inning. To his credit though, he came back out in the 3rd and silenced the Tide bats. He pitched into the 8th, and UA never really threatened again while he was on the mound. But, while the Bama bats fell silent, that 10 run cushion was plenty for Tyler Fay to work with. Fay went 6 innings, gave up 4 runs on 6 hits, 7 K's and 1 walk. Worth noting that Brady Neal made a fantastic grab at the wall in right in the 6th that kept things from getting really interesting in terms of OU climbing back in it. Speaking of Neal, at the plate, he was 4-4 with a walk (a HR shy of the cycle). Reliever Sam Mitchell took over in the 7th to try and finish the game, but ran out of gas in the 9th. IMO, the staff left him in too long, but I know they wanted to get out of the game without burning another guy. Anyway, Mitchell gave up 3 runs in the 9th, and with 2 outs and a Sooner on 2nd, Heiberger came in and got the strikeout to end it.

While I'm at it, can we just have a mid game interview with a player or coach on TV where other teammates don't decorate him like a fucking Christmas tree with random dugout items? Or maybe, just cut the (usually) worthless interviews out all together.

Top of the order up, Bama needed some runs, down 4-1 in the 5th. OU pitcher's gas tank is running low, they've done nothing off him all game. So, leadoff single by Fowler. Then Lebron jumps on the first pitch and hits into an easy DP. Next batter, Neal, first pitch again, grounder to SS. 7 pitch inning. This is how the offense operated early in the year when they struggled. They start to press and just go up there hacking away. To be fair, Fowler didn't, he had a good AB. But now, they extend OU's starter another inning, and wasted what started as a promising top half of the 5th for themselves.
