Auburn had the second-best offensive performance in school history Saturday, as it gained 706 yards in a 51-14 home victory against Arkansas State.

But voters weren't impressed. And that goes for both coaches and media members.

In both of the latest polls released Sunday — from the Amway Coaches and the Associated Press, respectively — the Tigers actually dropped in each.

Last week, Auburn was No. 33 in the coaches' poll with 16 points; Sunday, the Tigers were 35th with 15 points.

Auburn fared even worse among AP pollsters.

The Tigers entered last week at No. 32, earning 13 points following a narrow 19-13 defeat to No. 2 Clemson. In the newest AP poll, the Tigers had fallen to No. 35, receiving just seven points.

Auburn takes on Texas A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium this Saturday in the SEC opener for both teams. The Aggies enter the contest 2-0, ranked No. 17 in the AP poll and No. 20 in the coaches.

This is a knock on Troy as much as anything...

The barn has their problems, but they're better then about half of the other SEC teams. I would have them in the high 20s.

Not surprisingly, the barners are already talking playoffs after a win over a REALLY bad Arkansas State team. It makes no difference what Arkansas State did last year. That was then, and this is now. The same team that they blew out was also blown out at home in their opener against Toledo. So, for the barners to be excited over that really speaks volumes about where they are as a program.

I saw a barner co-worker dance a little jig this morning over the win they had this past Saturday. I asked "so, were ya'll not expected to beat Arkansas State?". "Was that a big upset or something?". His reply was "you may laugh, but that Arkansas State team is red hot and would hang with any team in the nation right now". So, an 0-2 team that lost at home to Toldeo is considered among the nation's best. Got it. :what:

i guess they have to convince themselves first before they can convince anyone else.

I had to educate a cousin of mine that claims to be a BAMA fan but is DEFINITELY a shit pot stirrer about the Barns game last week. He was exclaiming that the Barn lit up Arky State to the tune of 700+ yards. I said true, BUT that same team got "lit up" against Toledo to the tune of 550+ the week before!! ARKY STATE D = SHITTY D!!!!

They could play a bunch of deaf, dumb, and blind midgets without limbs and still act like it was a big deal that they beat them .. "You may laugh but those little fellas are red hot!!"

The thing that the barner fan base misses is, this is nothing new! Even in years that the barn is down, they still have wins like this. Last year, they hung 56 on Idaho and had over 650 yards of offense. In 2012, when the barn went 3-9 and 0-8 in the SEC, they beat Alabama A&M something like 55-7.
