Just amazing what Alabama is getting done on the ground. And that's a mouthful around here. The extra threat of a running QB has our offense in high gear the moment we decide to push the issue. Fresh off an annihilation of 10essee team, with a decent defensive front line and this team is way ahead of some great Bama running teams in the Saban era. I thought this article was interesting how this year's model compares to our Heisman running team of last season.

More Potent After Derrick Henry Went Pro

Our rushing numbers are way up there, for sure. The best seven years of total rushing (and the tenth) are not surprisingly all from the Seventies. Number 8 is 2012, and number 9 is 1986 with Bobby Humphrey. We should break into that top seven in total rushing yards, but we probably won't get into the top ten average yards per game (we're at 265, 10th best at Bama is 280) and they're all held by Wishbone teams.

That we're spreading it around more is great strategy, but it's also a testament to what Henry was able to accomplish last year. If my data is correct, only four people in this world have rushed for over 200 yards in a game for Bama: Gilmer (1), Humphrey (4), Alexander (3) and Henry (4). Humphrey's four were spread over two seasons, and Alexander's three were spread over three seasons (freshman game at LSU, then junior and senior campaigns). Derrick did it all in one year.

This quote from the linked article:

It's a carefully choreographed set of motions and shifts that forces defenses to respect the possibility of a quick toss to a receiver going one direction, a handoff to a running back going the other or an athletic quarterback keeping it.
I suspect it'll continue to get better. Why? Reps, reps, and more reps.

Also from the linked article:

Saban spent July and August talking about being without experienced backs for the first time in his Tuscaloosa tenure.

Thank God for Coach Burton Burns. He's probably the most under rated coach on our staff.

Good read @TUSKstuff
