šŸˆ Bama's now using Tua and Jalen AT THE SAME DAMN TIME! The Tide are putting their top QB's on the field together.

@50+yeartidefan, Where are you getting the association between the two plays Jalen was in on and the idea those were gimmick plays? Neither were plays that couldn't be ran with other personnel. There's nothing that was gimmicky, or deceptive about them.
Years ago the reverse was thought to be a trick play--now it's a staple in teams playbooks. This is no different than what we've seen at Bama with Tyler and Drew, or what we've seen at Florida with Tim and Chris--it requires defenses to prepare for two different schemes.

An exact opposite of this is found this weekend--Lock isn't a running threat even though he is mobile. It's about like Nicky Fitz at MSU as well. QB's that have one skill set but can run and pass--with Lock, his skill set is found with his passing ability. Hell, it's about like Stidham as well.

The point is teams will be practicing against a double-pass even though it very well may not be in our game plan (or playbook for that matter, though I believe it's likely been practiced.)

FWIW, there's been several years in Saban's tenure where Bama has had some formations and plays in the playbook, they practiced this unusual wrinkles, but we never saw them in games. Here there are DC's knowing it's a possibility and hence they have to prepare for them.

IE: An example of something Bama hadn't seen from a team that worked were the wheel routes from the tight ends in the middle last weekend. It wasn't a gimmick. It wasn't a trick play. It was a scheme they didn't prepare for...and that's where we're seeing this Bama offense leave DC's--in a state of "what if."

Ok....so what....being prepared is preparing for most "everything ".....which you cant... but you take shots and adjust...
I just dont see an offense that is effective...as Bamas ...needing to show a 2 QBs....
Set... if you have it...fine...use it when you need it....did they need it...not really..
So they thrilled the fans...yea!!!!!!!!.....
Did they throw the opposing DCs in a tail spin...i doubt it at this level...
Its really not a trick play...though...i agree...just a play with 2 QBs...
maybe on a goal line...or 2 point critical play... but in a play when you can dominate your opponent...straight up...
But whatever....

:eyeroll::eyeroll: You are really making this harder than it is. DCs break down film and come up with tendencies from the formations, down & distance, etc. So for example, we run 6 different formations/personnel groupings, run 14 different plays, 2nd and short we like to run this play, 3rd and medium it is this one 70% of the time, you see where I'm going with this? DCs plan for that. You throw a 2 QB set out there in 2 different formations like we did Saturday and run 2 different plays, regardless if they gained a yard or 30+ like they did. The DC and the players are in panic mode. DCs don't like what "if's"!!! They want specifics. It causes confusion amongst the players. Like the guys said when asked about the formation. The Arky players were screaming back and forth that #2 was on the field!! Double pass! Double pass!! When you have them guessing, you have your opponent playing slow, playing tentative. You can bet that the DC had his ass puckered up extra tight!! You give your opponents something else to have to prepare for and spend time on, even though we might not even see it again!!! Extra time spent on that means less time spent on normal base plays and even the "special" play or two from our normal sets.

Hate to be a downer.... But the D Coordinators asses have been puckered for 6 games straight without Jalen on the field. Guessing right, guessing wrong, getting owned.

So the question is - Is Jalen more dangerous than the receiver he's replacing? An argument could be made both ways...

It's a cute story... But don't see it making a difference.

Is it better to show new wrinkles when you don't need to so DC's have to account for them or is it better to spring them on unsuspecting great defenses when you may need to run new wrinkles or plays that had not been seen before? I believe we should save them untill a game that could arise where we really need it. See onside kick off against Clempson 3 years ago in NC game. Surprise surprise says Gomer.

That was my initial reaction as well. I think, however, that all this we saw was a basis of something even more devious later on.

@rick4bama , the idea of all three QBs out there does foster a lot of possibilities!

Confusing is good.....execution is better....
But I hear you.... but i would bet a good DC would have been prepared somewhat... and adjust accordingly...
but I mostly agree with you....

@50+yeartidefan when you have never seen it on film from the opponent, you can't adjust on the fly. Your adjustment happens after the fact. That's why I always loved the offensive side of the ball as a player and coach. If you think about it, the two plays we ran were quite normal run plays for Jalen. He took one off of a sweep look which he has done hundreds of times and then the second was the QB zone read. Execution was there. Just that element of surprise with Tua still on the field gives it an "Oh Shit!" or "Pucker" factor for a DC a 10!!! As many times as Chavis has faced off against so many teams and against BAMA, I bet he tightened up a tad!!

What if Jalen fakes the pass to Tua have them thinking double pass then he runs opposite way giving to a reversing smith who then pitches back to Tua who looks at Jalen everybody bites he then throws it cross field to a wide open jeudy. All the whole Saban stands with his hands in the air before the pitch back to Tua. Najee Harris’s stands mid field doing the floss dance the entire time

BTW, have you guys seen the video of the corner with the head slap on Tua? I don't have time at the minute to link it...

Point being...tell me as soon as Tua is lined up outside the corner isn't losing his concentration. Please. Tell me.
