| FTBL Bama vs. Vandy

When: 10/5 at 3:15 PM CT

Where: Nashville, TN

Coach: Clark Lea, 4th season, 11-29 overall

2024 record: 2-2, 0-1 in SEC

Alabama looks to build off its thrilling victory against Georgia with a trip to Nashville as conference play picks up momentum. Alabama is 60-19-4 all-time against Vanderbilt and carries a 12-game winning streak, due to a forfeited win in 1993. Vandy’s last win on the field happened 4 decades ago.

Vanderbilt started the season with an overtime win against the Virginia Tech Hokies, in a game where Vandy started with a 17-point lead, yet needed a score with under 2 minutes left in the 4th to extend the game to overtime. Vandy followed up that win with a blowout against Alcorn State before losing a stunner on the road against the Georgia State Panthers on a touchdown score in the final seconds. Two weeks ago, the Commodores lost a heartbreaker on the road against #7 Missouri by pulling a game tying field goal in the second overtime period. Vandy is coming off a bye, so they have had a little extra time to lick their wounds.

The Vanderbilt offense is led by former New Mexico State QB Diego Paiva. The 2023 Conference USA Offensive Player of the year has Nashville buzzing and the attention of Alabama DC Kane Wommack:

“…you look at the level of competitive attitude that those guys play with, you see that come from their quarterback. The dude is a real baller. He’s physical. He’s tough. He makes the non-traditional play on the field numerous times. He’s going to be challenging for us when you look at an option-style offense and the way their quarterback navigates their offense. You can tell there’s a confidence from the rest of his teammates that I think he breathes into their football team.”

Paiva has taken care of the ball and thrown for 6 scores with no turnovers in 2024. He has also carried the ball 71 times for 279 and 2 scores and is the team’s leading rusher. The leading Commodore receiver is a 6’4 senior TE from Texas who played with Paiva last season at NMSU. On the other side of the ball, Vanderbilt is led by junior lead tackler Langston Patterson. The defense surrenders 330 yards per game and has given up at least 30 to each 2024 opponent with a pulse.

Verdict: I am interested to see how Alabama challenges Paiva’s athleticism and the read option, and if the Bama defense can cause a mistake that leads to his first turnover. Bama should be able to create separation on the other side of the ball.

Alabama- 42
Vanderbilt- 17

Roll Tide!

While a season ticket holder we always enjoyed traveling to the Vandy game. It was an interesting venue and a lot of times, 'Bama fans were very close to the majority.

Bama pulls away in the second half 48 to 14.

Should be a good game, guys. Vandy is averaging about 37 points per game (I know, look at the competition). But their player stats don’t align to that. QB passes for 180 YPG and rushes for 70 YPG (he’s their leading rusher). A TE is leading receiver with 54 YPG. The team as a whole does rush for 170 YPG, so that’s pretty good balance versus the passing yards. I thought I’d see more gaudy stats. They have had 1 Pick 6 and a punt return TD.

They’ve had a few big play offensive TDs this year. 2 over 55 yards and several more over 20 yards.

One more thing that could come in to play if the game is closer than we like… They have a solid kicker. He’s made several over 50 yards this year including a 57 yarder. Thats one area, maybe the only area, where they have the advantage.

Stanford Steve was abysmal when I would see his picks last year. He’s made some kind of a turnaround this year. Almost too good to be true. I wonder if he’s getting help/advice.

This year:

Last year:
You are not the only one who has noticed this.

BUT, his picks have been solid.

I haven't watch GameDay in years but have this season...he's been right.

BUT. I didn't pay attention to his picks today. There's a reason. History.

Seeing a percentage of success go from 37% to 80% in a year with no real difference in variables is suspicious. Sniff test is failing, for me at least. Who knows, maybe he’s just been extremely lucky.

I hope they don't do that shitty "Command Center" crap during the BAMA game. That shit is annoying as hell. I don't care about the stats during the game. Hell, the commentators will talk about it enough (even though I listen to the radio broadcast, but they do it, too). I want to see a full screen game, not a bunch of text taking up half the screen with 2 different camera views. Call me sold school (I wear that tag with pride), bu I don't need all the extra stuff on the screen.

You will need to find the one that doesn't have the Command Center crap! I too can't take it either. The half screen with the Ad on one side and showing the game on the other side. I don't like that either.
