Terrific second half!!
-Coker is never going to win us games. We just need to hope he plays well enough not to lose them. Those 2 INT's were both bad, but afterwards he played good ball.
-Speaking of Coker - We run a play that looks like a read option. It's not the read option though, because we neither read or option the ball. It is absolutely wide open for the QB to keep that ball and run forever. I really hope they let him start doing that. And to be honest, Coker has been terrific running the ball. That's been a huge positive for him and the offense.
-That D was absolutely stingy tonight!! They are really gelling as a group. Aside from the last TD there weren't many mistakes all night.
-Those DT's and DE's in base defense are just spectacular at stopping the run. Can't say enough about how effective the big boys have been in the trenches. Reed, Robinson, Payne, and Tomlinson just do not get moved!
-The LB's were impressive. I was super excited to see Tim Williams in on the first third down. And later in the first half, both he and Evans were in together! I think they both got a sack tonight. Pettway always plays well and had a few nice run stops tonight. Ragland has but himself in the the same territory as our other great LB's in recent history IMO... He impacts the game in so many ways.
-Minkah Fitz is still making plays. Eddie Jackson is clearly more comfortable at safety and those big plays are awesome. Still not seeing much from Geno Smith, and Marlon is still learning. Does anyone even throw at Cyrus anymore?
-Great to see JK Scott boom a few tonight. Griff is still a question mark. Had he just made the other chip shot I think we could all live with him not making 48 yarders... But missing the short one was troubling.
-Kirby may be getting his mojo back! The D is having fun and hitting hard. We didn't blitz much tonight but never really had to sell out to impact Allen. Coverage was so good that risk wasn't necessary.
-The offensive line took a step back. For those 2 straight quarters of no movement they couldn't run or pass block. Coker just isn't capable of overcoming that. They've got to be more consistent next weekend so those drives can be sustained and the D can rest. I think all of them either had a noticeable penalty of blow by at some point.
-Ridley is a special talent! Have to comment L. Kiffin for having him ready for the spotlight and using him well. If Stewart or OJ has a breakout game it will have to be next week, because Chavis will have a bullseye on Ridley.
-Huge test for the D to prove themselves vs another HUNH team. They need to be really good to give Coker the confidence and field position to win that game. Should be fun! RTR
