🏈 Bama Unseats Nebraska as all time #1 in the Billingsly report

Of the top 200 teams of all time, 6 played last season.
According to this, the SEC Championship Game was in the running for the Greatest Game of all time.

OK, I'm sure there are a bunch of things to argue on this list, but how the he!! is the 91 Miami team ahead of the 92 Bama team?!?!?!?!? Alabama went 13-0 (Miami 12-0), Bama beat the defending NC, and Alabama won all the major selectors, Miami split half the major selectors with Washington.

Without commenting on the actual vote, there could be ample reasons for that ranking.

Not all years are created equal. The voters could see that the 1991 season saw better all around play and a team (or teams) that dominated that year might be better than a team that dominated in another year, say 1992 or 1990 or 2002. Just like the voters could hold that our 1971 team, which lost only to what until this year was considered the best team of all-time, could be considered better than one or many teams that dominated their particular year. Same thing with our 1966 team - where some teams from a different year with a loss or two could be considered better in a head-to-head comparison or relative to their contemporaries.

About the only problem I have with that list is that our 1979 team was not in the Top Ten - or higher. But I have a vested interested there.;)

I think he uses some kind of power ranking to evaluate the teams. I went to cfrc.com and did a little reading and discovered that he considers strength of scheule in coming up with his final schedule. As was stated in the introduction to the list he did not consider margin of victory. He claims to evaluate every college team from the dawn of college football through last season, a grandiose claim indeed. Let's just say that the further back you go the less reliable such concepts as strength of schedule become. Still, it is quite interesting.
