🏈 Bama Spring Quarterback Battle

I'm with you; one of my favorite games as well. A lot of that has to do with how we, as a fan base here at RTB, called the game pre-kick—with some of the Clemson fan base. All we heard was "Thunder and Lightning, Thunder and Lightning." A few were pointing to Cullen Harper as the next great QB in college football.

Almost to a member we were telling those Tiger fans, "you don't have an offensive line." In the end, yards rushing for the game for Clemson? 0. Zero. Nada.

.

Man, I forgot about that - so ridiculous.

Last time I checked, there were 11 players for each team on the field at one time. I know some people think that the QB is the be all/end all, but it's a team game. Alabama doesn't need, and has never had, the QB who does it all. Some teams need that because they lack depth at multiple skill positions. When a QB takes over a game, it's natural to rely heavily on that QB. Putting too much reliance on any one player is a risky move. One injury and you're done. Alabama relied on Henry a little too much last year. Prior to that, they relied a little too much on Cooper. Luckily those two stayed healthy. When you rely heavily on a player, the opposing team can easily plan against you.

Agreed, and it's been pointed out correctly over and over. JP Wilson, McElroy, Sims, even Coker - none were amazing but they performed well IN THE SYSTEM and had good surrounding talent. This sounds like another year for that. If Cooper doesn't throw INTs and distributes the ball well and can throw deep enough to keep the opposing secondaries honest, he should be fine WITHOUT the rifle arm. And if he's as fast as they say, then that's going to be rough on LBs and safeties who have to account for OJ and the RB AND the WRs!!

With regards to earlier topic about QB development, Titans just robbed the bank thanks to LA Rams trading up to #1. Could it be Wentz?? They guy who had similar stats as Coker?

Still puzzled as to why Coker didn't get an invite to the Combine.

Not me. He was always slightly late making reads/throws.

Had Coker played with a lesser SEC team and/or defense, would you seriously have thought highly of him?

Welp. I suppose you judged those other QB's who were at the combine with a similar lens. I could have a field day with the list, but....

Connor Cook...accuracy (even on short passes), inconsistency, struggled in big games
Cardale Jones...backup QB
Stephen Rivers, the guy couldn't even make it past the cluster fuck QB situation at LSU...

Agreed... I guess I fall in the "hater" profile of this years QB class. I was however impressed with Lynch but only saw him 2-3 times...

I just firmly believe Coker could not anticipate throws the way good NFL QB's do. (Although I would have put Tyrod Taylor in that category as well)

Being in town since last Thursday seems to have that effect on projections.

I think the following would likely affect predictions:

Some Quotes from Tua Tagovailo's Dad:
quote:
Alabama was my personal favorite only because of our relationship and how we communicated with them,” Galu Tagovailoa said. Right now, we are kind of gauging toward Alabama only because of the relationships we have with (offensive coordinator) Lane Kiffin and (coach) Nick Saban.

“That’s the family’s favorite, and mainly Tua’s right now.”

“If it was made today, just with what has happened this week, it would be Alabama,” Galu said. “Again, because of the relationship we built with them. Our relationship with Alabama has kept growing. This is just my opinion but it would be Alabama.”
