Tide Gets Two Big Commitments This Weekend

Coach Nick Saban and staff have to be pleasantly surprised this weekend with the commitment of not one, but two standout high school players.

On Friday Mountain Brooke High School's Tyler Love pulled the trigger and announced his intention to sign with Alabama. The commitment was something of a relief to many people who have been following Love's recruitment over the last few months. It was just last week that Love visited Mark Richt's Bulldogs in Athens and stated plainly several times that not only was it a great trip, but that he had gotten a number of questions answered in the process. While many BAMA fans were unshaken (citing Love's long-time BAMA connections as well as his love for the program) others were a bit wary. A commitment press conference on the heels of a great visit to Athens likely had some Tide faithful doubling their blood pressure meds during the last week.

Tyler Love(6'7, 282lbs) is regarded as one of the best offensive tackle prospects in the country. Rivals Recruiting Services lists him as the 7th best player in the country at his position, while Scout Recruiting lists him 8th. Although he can play either tackle position expect to see Love lining up at left tackle once Andre Smith goes Pro.

Tyler chose BAMA over such schools as Florida, Florida State, Virginia, Georgia and Oklahoma.

Not to be left out in the cold, one of the Sunshine State's outstanding talents decided the time was right to jump on the "Saban Express" before all seats were taken. A day after the Tyler Love press conference Tallahassee wide receiver Melvin Ray (6'2, 193lbs) followed suite.

Ray might be a bit more of an unknown to BAMA fans but rest assured that BAMA got a good one in this kid. He's a big, strong, physical wide receiver who can make yards after the catch by running past you just as easily as running over you. His sturdy frame allows him to excel at catching balls over the middle and blocking cornerbacks in the running game.

As a member of the Rivals250 Ray finished his junior year racking up ver 500 yards on 25 receptions for North Florida Christian. He chose BAMA over Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU and Florida, to name a few.

Assuming no injuries and continuing improvement, do you see Smith going after his junior season?

RTR,

Tim

Actually I do Tim. You never know though. For some reason Smith may decide to stay for four years but I could only see that if he were close to a degree or something that would keep him here. His money is waiting for him in the NFL.

Like you said though, assuming he continues to progress and doesn't suffer a career-ending injury.
