Alright guys and gals, time to face a harsh reality. We need Ole Miss to lose 2 games and of course Bama has to win out. Other than the real possibility the Miss. St. wins the Egg Bowl, who else will/can whip the Black Bears?

Can LSU get it together? Does Auburn have the horses to do it? Those are the only ones left on their schedule I see that has a shot at doing it.

Opine away..............................

They still face LSU, aubrun, Arkansas and MSU. They could lose two of those four and we could still go to Atlanta. If we win out it'll be another year like LSU where we won't be in the SECC game but playing for a NC. I'd like another shot at them.

I think an 11-1 BAMA has an excellent shot at getting into the playoffs. Like it has already been said, take care of business and we are in good shape. I think what would help our cause if we weren't able to get to ATL, would be for Ole Miss to go on to ATL and win out. The committee would then have to look at the circumstances surrounding our one loss. The loss of 3 BIG contributors at the outset of the game AND the team having a shot to win on the road in a hostile environment on the final possession to come up 20yds short. I think the committee would be hard pressed to take someone OVER BAMA and their strength of schedule as well.

I agree with you 99% of the time but I am afraid of the pressure this committee will be under NOT to take 2 members of the SEC. Not saying that's right but it sure feels like they will avoid that scenario at all costs.

If bama were to win out and ole miss was to lose one game and MISS ST lost 1 game and there was a three way tie. What's the tiebreaker now? I know there was a post recently about it but I forgot. Wouldn't it be overall SEC record and then national record and then finally quality vs OOC foes? WVU is a solid OOC foe right now for us and would put us near the top of OOC schedule.

Oregon with one loss, Baylor or TCU with one loss, Michigan State with one loss, undefeated FSU, Notre Dame with one loss. Whoever wins the SEC. I don't see the committee not taking the SEC champ, but they will use any other choice that looks reasonable to avoid taking a second SEC team. We can only worry about what we can control, so just win every Saturday nd then see what happens.

As Cecil Hurt mentioned in his article, the object of the committee isn't really to select the four best teams.

As Coach Bryant used to say, "every Saturday someone gets beat who wasn't supposed to".

It would have to be Ole Miss losing to MISSST and Bama beating them.

Assuming a three way tie between us, OM, and MSU, the first tiebreak is record in the division. Still tied, overall SEC record. Still tied, I think that the next one is the record of the SEC east teams we beat. Our two east opponents are Tn. and Fla. OM played Vandy and Tn. State has Ky and Vandy. In SEC wins, our East opponents have two wins, OM zero, and M St, two wins. It could come down to strange things like who wins the Tn-Vandy game or the Vandy-Ky game. Ole Miss would have the weaker position, Miss. State slightly stronger.

all of this begs the following question: with a playoff what the hell is the point of a conference title game? the way i see it, it's more harmful than negative, particularly for strong conferences like the SEC.

i can easily see things being more chaotic this year with conference title games plus a playoff than in any other previous seasons. we need to return to conference titles being granted (and shared if necessary) based upon record and let the regular season determine the top four teams period.

I honestly believe we needed FSU to lose last Saturday night. Notre Dame will lose further on down the road. FSU has cupcakes remaining on their schedule and will remain undefeated. We need to cheer for anyone playing Ole Miss, as well as Ms State, as difficult as that may be (talking November 1st for Ole Miss). I need to look up the thread that TerryP posted about SEC tiebreakers, because I believe it will come into play if we win out. I don't see Ole Miss losing two, realistically. In any event, last Saturday was fun to watch, and I can handle the season any way it plays out as long as our guys guys play with the enthusiasm and fun they had last Saturday.

No matter how bad it would look, you can't keep an Alabama team out of the playoff if they 1. Beat a #1 or #2 State squad and 2. Beat a top 10 Auburn team, potentially top 2 if they beat Ole Miss and Georgia.

Even so, in my eyes it's about "who are the best top 4 teams in the country?". It would be a travesty to penalize a team for one loss within the toughest division, regarding this season and rankings, in college football history. A lot of woulda-shoulda's to go before we even worry about such a thing anyway.

If Bama and Ole Miss both run the table, Bama won't be in the SECC game; however, I see no scenario (except one) where we win out and are left out. The winner of the SECC game (assuming UGA wins out) would be in, loser would be out UNLESS an undefeated Ole Miss team is beaten by a one-loss UGA. Then I see them both getting in, and Bama becoming less of a certainty due to SEC fatigue of having three out of four teams in the playoff.

Tim
