🏈 Bama named Steve Sarkisian as new OC

Alabama QB commit Tua Tagovailoa responds to Steve Sarkisian being Tide’s new offensive coordinator
Tagovailoa, a 4-star prospect from Saint Louis High School (Honolulu), has a long-standing relationship with Sarkisian from his days as the Southern California head coach. Before committing to Alabama, Tagovailoa considered Southern Cal to be his top team and once said it was his “dream school.”
He told SEC Country how excited he was to find out that Sarkisian was going to be the Tide’s next offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
“It’s awesome to hear that Coach Sark is Alabama’s new offensive coordinator,” Tagovailoa said. “For me, it wasn’t so much of a if he will become the offensive coordinator, but more so when he would. I’m happy for coach, and this is an opportunity for this program offensively to move in a different direction.”
The nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback said he wasn’t notified prior to Nick Saban naming Sarkisian the offensive coordinator, but he did expect that it was going to happen after Lane Kiffin took the Florida Atlantic job.
“In the process, I could already indicate that they brought Sark in for a reason,” Tagovailoa said. “It wasn’t for him to be an evaluator for his whole career at Alabama.”
Tagovailoa’s father, Galu, recently told SEC Country how excited he would be if Sarkisian was going to be Alabama’s next offensive coordinator. Prior to committing to Alabama, it looked like it was a foregone conclusion that Tagovailoa was going to play for the Trojans. One of the main reasons for that was because of his son’s relationship with Sarkisian.
“Sarkisian was the only head coach — when he was at USC — that flew to Hawaii to watch Tua throw and on the spot said we want to offer you,” Galu Tagovailoa, Tua’s father, told SEC Country. “We went up to the camp they had at USC, and Sarkisian was just blown away by Tua. We’ve built a really good relationship with him.
“If Sarkisian was still at USC, I think we would have committed to USC. That’s how good of a relationship we have with him.”
The Army All-American will enroll at Alabama in January. He has already signed his financial aid agreement and has been cleared to start college early.

Suttle said on Finebaum this afternoon that, "After the 'incident' in Atlanta everyone agreed there was no way Sark would be the next O.C." So apparently Boz did know something, in this case.

Did Suttle go on Finebaum after the SEC Championship and guarantee that there was no chance possible that Sark would or could be the OC? Did he go on there and guarantee that Kiffin would be OC at LSU (that one is probably the funniest) too? Crimson Boz is as full of shit as a constipated elephant. He hears rumors and shit from message boards, twitter, reddit, etc. and then goes around spread his horse shit "insider info." You dont have to look any further than the Sark hiring. The guy that ACTUALLY broke the story posts it on Twitter and then 13 minutes later Boz is posting it on one of the messages boards like its some insider info. Hes a joke.

I'm really fine with this hire and I can easily see it from the football perspective. Saban seemed adamant in his presser that he is not going to compromise the team under any circumstances. That said, I fully expect Saban will have the world's greatest backup plan on staff if and when we need to go to plan B.

Well, I trust Saban as well but I'd be lying through my fingers if I said I still wasn't very worried about this. Handing the reigns over to an alcoholic who, if the rumors are true, had a relapse so bad that he had to be helped onto the plane just two weeks ago worries the crap out of me. I really hope he can get and keep his shit together. To the people comparing this to the hiring of Kiffin, from what I know(which admittedly is very little), this is not the same kind of situation.

Can you make one example where a careless decision, like that would be, has been made like that? By Saban, now. Rival fans don't believe the shit that's been spewed.

I am beginning to believe a good many have been trolled.

So Aaron Suttles is trolling?

Even @TerryP seemed to imply having knowledge of the situation but chose not to put it out in the public in the manner that Boz did:

All that being said, a few days ago I mentioned it wasn't a good idea to assume Sark is going to just slide into the position. The message is the same as what @CrimsonBoz posted ... it's how you say it, right? (And I'm the smallest of the small when it comes to living in a PC world.)

Is he trolling too?

Anyway, I qualified my post first by saying that (while)I trust Saban, and again by saying "if the rumors are true" (I'm still worried). I don't know if it happened, but it's out there and it's part of what I have to go on to determine how I feel about the hiring.

The Crimson Tide began practice for the first round of the playoffs Friday, December 16, 2016. New offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, center, watches the practice.

Steve Sarkisian was announced as the University of Alabama’s new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Friday evening in a press release. He will replace Lane Kiffin following the conclusion of the season, when Kiffin departs to begin work as head coach at Florida Atlantic.

“He has a great track record and has done a really, really good job wherever he's been, whether it was as the coordinator at Southern Cal or as the quarterbacks coach,” UA head coach Nick Saban said after practice on Friday. “He has a history of developing quarterbacks as well as being a very good play-caller and a well-organized, good designer of offense. He's been here with us all fall and done a really good job, so that makes the transition a lot easier. I wouldn't have anybody in this organization that I didn't have total faith, trust and confidence in that they would do a good job with our players.”

Sarkisian has been a member of the Alabama staff since September, when he was hired midseason as an offensive analyst. His salary in that role was $35,000.

“I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to join Coach Saban’s staff, and I can’t thank the University of Alabama enough,” Sarkisian said in the release. “I have always admired the Alabama program from afar, and getting to be part of this football team these past few months has only reinforced my belief that this is the best college football organization in the country. There are many outstanding coaches and athletes at the University of Alabama, and I am extremely excited to start working with them in my new role. This is a very special place to have the opportunity to coach when you consider the program’s rich tradition and the unrivaled passion of the fan base.”

Sarkisian arrived at Alabama after being fired as head coach at Southern Cal, much like Kiffin did three years ago. He was 12-6 as head coach of the Trojans in 2014 and 2015. Multiple reports said his dismissal was related to problems with alcohol. Sarkisian subsequently sued the school for wrongful termination; the case was later moved to arbitration.

“We have a lot of support people here for our players,” Saban said. “We have support folks for anybody in our organization. We’re going to use all the support staff that we have to design – professionally, I’m not talking about me, I’m talking about professionals – which has been in place since the guy came here. And we’re going to continue to do that.

"Those people are going to help him the best that we can. We have players that need help, we have players that need support, we have people in our family who we are going to always help everybody that has issues or problems. I’ll say it again, I would not have anybody in this organization that I didn’t have confidence in that they would do a good job for our players. And that’s how the decision gets made.”

Before becoming head coach at USC, he was 34-29 in five years as head coach at Washington. He led the Huskies to bowl games in each of his last four years.

He was an assistant coach at Southern Cal from 2005-08, serving as offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008 and coaching the quarterbacks all four seasons. He was quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2004. Sarkisian's first stint at USC came from 2001-03, when he coached Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer. His coaching career began as quarterbacks coach at El Camino Community College from 2000-01. He started at quarterback for BYU in 1995-96.
