Ty Flournoy-Smith, the #1 JUCO TE in the country has committed to play for the TIDE. 6'3" 235 3* TE originally signed and played for UGA back in 2012. He transferred out after having a run in with the police for falsifying a report on having textbooks stolen which he resold.

Oh damn this guy has H-Back written all over him... supposedly he was a dominant run blocker in JUCO. Imagine Fowler at fullback with Henry in the tailback... a few plays later Ty Smith at fullback with Fowler at tailback... and then cap that off with Yeldon as a single black with Ty Smith and Vogler bunched to one side... yikes...

If what you say is true, then we better bring in the damn jumbo packages, line up with a full back 85% of the time, and jam the running game right down their throat. Get back to real 'Bama football.

Birdman37 Where are you getting the eval saying he was a dominant run blocker for GMI? (I'm lost on why they are calling that JUCO, versus a PREP school...which is what GMI is. But, I digress...)

I'm asking because I've got my doubts about who is stating that. I'm not doubting he's improved in his blocking, but I'm wondering how they are saying he was a dominant blocker when he missed about half of the season last year. Not only that, when he was used, his role was that of a pass receiving TE. (Five TD's, six games.)

TerryP I read an article in the AJC where it said that he was on a line that gained over 3500yds on the ground. I'm guessing that is where the idea of a dominant run blocker comes from.

Exactly... the article I ran said he was a "key blocker" on a team that gained 3,500 yards and 43 TDs on the ground.

As sophomore at Georgia Military College in 2013, Flournoy-Smith caught 6 passes for 134 yards and 5 touchdowns while serving as a key blocker for a rushing attack that compiled nearly 3,500 yards and 43 touchdowns.

If hes not a great run blocker than I have no idea why we are offering a TE that caught all of 6 passes all year... and I dont really see what the difference between prep school and JUCO is.

Five of the six were for touchdowns. He's not that far removed from his high school days or his days at UGA so getting a grasp on what he offers isn't that difficult.

Prep School: For a kid who normally lacks a credit, or two, to qualify. It is a quick, get in, get grades right, get out.

Five of Jalston's Seven catches were for TDs... combine that with that primarily rushing attack and how he's supposedly a great blocker and he's similar in size to Jalston... and you see where I got the H-Back thing...

And is JUCO not typically a quick, get in for a year or, get the hell out for players that come from a major college to JUCO like Ty did? JUCO competition would actually be considered "better" than prep schools right? I always thought prep school was like an extra year of high school which is why I thought it was weird when you said Georgia Military is a prep school rather than a JUCO, most of these guys go to a JUCO.

I understand where you're getting H-back from...with Kiffin wanting to go to a two-tight end set (see thread on football forum just like this one) I see him in a different role. I know we'll likely start using a true fullback.

Here's a rules situation with the JUCO versus Prep. For a kid to qualify for SEC play, coming from JUCO, he must complete his degree at the school. So, in essence, spend two years there and still have two to play. He must fill both requirements to play in the SEC.

GMI isn't your ordinary Prep school. It does fit that bill with course work, but it's truly a football factory.

I didn't know all that about Kiffin till now, so kudos on the info (and the prep school stuff). I kinda liked the H-Back potential, dont think we ever truly utilized as a weapon to full potential tho. Not mad at going back to true fullback tho, gonna need to find one in recruiting in the next cpl years tho. Outside of Jalston I have no clue who would fill that role for now.

Birdman37 I'm sure musso won't like the idea of going with a true FB.

When it comes to positions that are hard to fill, a true nose and a true full back are likely the hardest positions to find straight out of high school. It's quite a mindset change—when recruiting a kid that's been used to running the ball a lot—to convince a player we want to use you as a primary blocker; running the ball occasionally.

The best kid to find for the true FB position would be an undersized lineman (specifically guard) that more than likely ran the Wing T offense in HS. These kids are used to pulling and blocking and are pretty damn smart too. They weigh in the 220-235 range but are just too small to play big time D1 football on the line.
