I have to say that Urban Meyer was one of the best if not THE best thing that ever happened to the University of Utah football program. Actually after a couple of bourbons tonight, no, he was the best thing that ever happened to the U.
That out of the way I have to preface this with my thought that I wish Urban no ill will personally unlike a very large part of our fanbase. Yes he lied about wanting to live in Salt Lake City and "teaching his son to hit a curve ball" but when it came down to it he made the right choice.
However I plan to sit myself down, crack open a beer and glue myself to the SEC championship game this Saturday and cheer 100% without regret for the University of Alabama.
Your fans that we met in a few short days in New Orleans sold me on 'bama. They were great people. Obviously many of them were naive about Utah as I would expect. There was only one that I would qualify as a "dillhole' he actually gave us one of the funniest moments in New Orleans http://utefans.net/message.php?id=762105#message762105.
But I digress. What summed your fans up was one gentleman that stood outside the portal of the Superdome. We had celebrated with a few friends and needed to get back to our bus. Yes we were some of the people that rode 38 hours on a bus to get there. Again I digress. This gentleman summed up the older Alabama fan. His khaki pants, white shirt, crimson blazer and his Bear Bryant hat spoke volumes of his years of loyalty to UA.
He was standing by the exit and was making a point of shaking hands with as many Utah fans as he could. His line for all of us was, "Y'all whooped our ass tonight. Congratulations." After that I knew who my other team would be this year and for years to come.
So as much as I love Urban and what he did to elevate Utah to the point where it is now?
ROLL TIDE ROLL! Kick some Gator ass!
