I got this from another board. Can we possibly make this a sticky? This could be a total nightmare for fans traveling to the game. A few weeks ago it took us 3 hours to get from Alpharetta to Turner Field. The traffic literally inches along. I can see a lot of fans missing kickoff.

I live in Atlanta, and I just heard on the radio that the "Weekend Paving Project" will continue on Labor Day weekend. The downtown connector of I-75 and I-85 will be down to 1 lane going in both directions.

For those of you that do not live here, that is a nightmare!!! Everyone coming from Clemson will be taking that route. Consider taking MARTA to the Georgia Dome to save yourself the headache.

I live in Atlanta, and I have not heard this, but I would seriously doubt that they will be paving during the holiday, they didn't for the 4th or any of the other holidays over the last several months. They're almost finished with it anyway. Even if they do pave, it won't be shutting down more than 1 or 2 lanes at a time.

That being said, taking MARTA would probably be a good idea, anyway, just because of normal holiday traffic.

I spoke with the Georgia DOT. They will be paving over Labor Day weekend. They are meeting today regarding the overall plan for Labor Day, and I'm now on a list to receive an email regarding their plans. I should get the email early next week, and I'll get it on the board as soon as I receive it.

With the majority of the fans coming from opposite directions, it should help traffic flow. The Dome only holds about 70,000 (which is, coincidentally, the typical attendance at aubrun nonconference home games), so that's a help, too. Also, there are alternatives in getting to the Dome from I-20 without hitting the Connector (Exit 53 - MLK to Northside, and Exit 55 - Peters/Whitehall to Northside).

We'll get all of this information on the board, in addition to the link to the Georgia DOT website (which is very good).

If you are coming in from the West, stop at the Hamilton Holmes Station. Its off 20 and its the most West stop for Marta. We did it for the UF-UA title game in 1994 since we came in for just the game as students. It will be all Bama fans and it drops off right at the Ga Dome, World Congress Center. Then thats a head start on the way out of town.

Worth the price of the ride by far.

I know this is a big map, but this will help some.

Whenever I go to the dome for anything I catch the Marta at the Hamilton/Holmes station and ride it. It is like a $1.75 for a round trip ticket. Way cheaper than trying to park downtown. There is a large parking lot there and it is easy in and out. Coming from Birmingham it is super easy to stay in Douglasville and ride the marta.

Marta is definately the way to go. The price has gone up to $2.25 round trip. Trains run on time and you can be sure that there will be plenty of fans from both sides riding the train. Lots of opportunity for pregame "discussions" amongst fans. :)

I'm going to make a weekend of it and my criteria for picking a hotel was how close it was to the Marta Stop. looks like I'kk be riding in fro mthe north side of town
