🏈 back up left tackle

Ryan Kelly and Kellen Williams, along with the Lindsey kid all have Center experience if I'm correct.

At the end of the 2011 season, the backup for Vlachos was widely considered to be Lindsey. Coming out of spring camp he'd spent a lot of time behind Warmack with Kelly taking the snaps behind Barrett. Last season it was dependent on the day on whether we'd see Kellen taking snaps behind Chance versus Boswell.

Coming out of the spring this year Kellen was taking snaps behind Cyrus.

So, just taking Kellen alone we've seen him taking snaps at the guard and tackle position. Kelly has pretty well remained at the C position since he's been here. Kellen may have taken some snaps at C during practices, but he's always been a guy I thought would take a guard position and back-up the tackle ONLY if necessary.

The situation we have along the offensive line hasn't changed since we had Pendry. You'll find several players who can play multiple positions. If we happened to have an injury along the line, it's really a guessing game as to who slides where.

Let's just say Cyrus does get hurt. We can plug in Kellen, Chad, or slide Barrett back over. Bottom line is this. We've got a lot of talent along the line and it's more about the chemistry than it is a specific player. The days of losing Andre are long past us.

"Deeper at Center or deeper at LT" is an interesting topic. After chewing on it a while I think it is easier to downgrade at C than LT, because the Center has 2x All Americans next door to help. That LT will be facing All-American DE Sam Montgormery in Baton Rouge. Games swing on mismatches like that.

When you were chewing on it did you think about the C being the one that's been calling blocking assignments for the three years and will be again this season? It's just blocking, it as much about who is being blocked.

I was never a fan of Closner when he was here but when he was hurt and we went to Britt we lost a lot of experience along the line; specifically those blocking calls.

We beat LSU in 2005 without Closner getting injured. Watching Britt get demolished on nearly every play afterward in that game was difficult to witness.

Maybe. I don't know.

Certainly the five sacks surrendered hurt. But, there's no denying the offense wasn't doing a damn thing at that point. We'd gone three SEC games and only scored one TD. You might excuse UT's game because it was the Bama vs UT game. But, you've got a UT team that wasn't even a .500 team that year. MSU hadn't won a single ball game in the SEC that year and neither had Ole Miss when we played them.

We are getting off subject so I'll close with this. That 2005 team wasn't near as good as people thought they were. We played a lot of bad SEC teams to start that year with Florida being the only exception and they were just a good team, far from being a contender.
