If Tubs wouldn't have said it, I wouldn't believe it. But, this is no lie. Did they have dial-up? Is this a move because of Ming? No, it's actually a move because of Gerald West.

"I think this building's probably getting close to 20 years old," Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said. "It needs some upgrades in furniture, wallpaper and carpet."

The football coaches and staffers are also getting technology improvements. Tuberville said the wiring infrastructure badly needed an upgrade for the type of Internet and video capabilities that coaches need.

"We're getting high-speed Internet wiring for all of our computers and scouting data, and all of our cut-up video," Tuberville told the Press-Register of Mobile in a story Friday. "We were really outdated, so it's much needed. (Coaches) are going to need that in a month's time, so they're working night and day on that."

Yes, it's a real article.

No comment on their locker room improvements. I do wonder if our visiting locker room is better than what they had in JH.

Now, this is a quote I found hilarious. It is from Gerald West' head coach when he called James Willis (Auburn coach that was owned in Mobile last year by Thompson.)

"I told what I had just witnessed and how cool it was," Riley said. "He was like, 'They did what?' I explained it to him, and he said, 'Unbelievable. I've got to go talk to coach Tuberville right now.'

A note to add here...

It was 3, possibly 4 years ago that I looked over the computer equipment in the football offices at Alabama and wrote an article about them. At the time, while I knew the systems were out there, I was impressed with the way Alabama was using them.

As example, when coaches were reviewing game tape, it was actual game "tape" but video clips like we see everyday on youtube. Literally, in Kines offices, at the click of a button he could pull up any clip from any game over the last few years and then email it to Ball, whoever. It was, and is, state of the art.

Picture an email...hey, here's a recruit we should look at, look at his clips.

All digitally transmitted throughout the coaches offices.

To think they are just making these changes astounds me.

I tell you what I am waiting for -- "360 vision".

For those that recall the now failed XFL, they used what I thought was the next great thing in watching football. Apparently they had numerous, as in a couple of dozen, cameras filming the action from all angles -- hence my reference to 360 degree. This allowed them to freeze the play and rotate around the frozen players to see it from all angles. GENIUS.

No more "we can't tell from this angle". Controversial call on an out-of-bounds catch - no issue. Goal-line stand/Did he break the plan? - No guessing required. And best of all...it would only be a matter of time before the cameras trained in on the cheerleaders. :D

Surely that already had high speed connection between offices. Maybe they are going to gigabit optical and he just doesn't know enough about it to describe it. Then again....

Amazing that they are that far behind. I am sick of seeing Auburn people dissin' Bama's facilities. From what I have seen, Bama is up there as far as facilities surrounding athletics...well above Aubruns...I have walked all over their campus and seen everything.

Because he is a genetic epoch, Coach Saban has had 360 Vision from birth.

That's amazing. AU is finally reaching the www capabilities that the rest of the world has been enjoying for years.

I can't even imagine ever, ever, in a million years, ever, going back to dialup.

I would do without internet if I had to use dial up.

I was being facetious with the dial up comment. Now, seeing James Willis make the comment "They did what?" That was hilarious.

There is no doubt, none, that the upgrade in their Internet capabilities is being done because of what Coach Saban has done on he recruiting trail.

Never-the-less, I certainly expect them to be picking up leftovers once again.

Well this doesn't shock me, to be honest.

I know everything Bama uses in the recruiting department is state of the art. I have a close friend who works there and he's pretty smart with computers. His first couple of days involved him just learning the stuff, they have to put clips together of different recruits on one video basically. You'll be surprised how many assistant coaches still like to use VHS rather then DVD though.

Would rather drive a stake into my head than use dialup....I remember playing D2 on dial up...the door would light up to go in a game...and you would sit there and wait.....and wait......and wait

and wait..........

It's the best of the best. It's better than some NFL locker rooms. :D

Who cares what "they" think? They've set no standard we care to challenge.

Putting all partisanship aside for a moment, Auburn does have nice athletic facilities. Before our latest improvements, they were probably better than ours. (I hear some Barners complaining about the new end zone seats at Bryant Denny but there is a reason the visitors sit there.) Comparing the two now and if any AU fan was honest, our facilities blow AU's away.

If there is any one thing that stands out as a positive in the last 10 years, it is the improvements made to facilities in the face of sanctions, losing records, multiple coaches, etc. Any Barn fan that has seen those improvements and have seen both facilities would be talking out of their ass if they say AU has the better of the two. Recruits sure as hell know better.

I live 15 minutes from Aubrun, nobody said I cared...I just said I was sick of it. Especially since I know what Aubrun has(even though it is nice, their facilities are not up to Bama's anymore).....I walk that campus almost everyday. I do comp work for surrounding businesses. Plus I know a lot of the people in the area...I do not care what they think...I am just sick of hearing it...like I said.
