Saban didn't like the NFL and kind of fell in their lap. It didn't happen until January after he said flat out he was not going to Alabama.

I really don't think CNS "fell into our lap" as old PM suggests. The flat out denials had some merit to it as well that the old fat man seems to be forgetting as well. Miami was in the playoff hunt and Saban had just seen Jim Mora, Jr get the ax at Atlanta for claiming that he would "walk to UCLA for that job!" Coach Moore still had to do some serious convincing to win Coach over.

When the Barner president decided to throw a wrench in things I said that may be what prevents the Barners from executing on their normal dysfunctional path. Had they done so I am sure Steele would have already been named. Hope I am wrong and they still screw it up. Seeing web sites like saying to not hire Steele does not help unless they do indeed go ahead and hire him.

To me... this is expected. They’d be fools to not interview him.

Now, would they offer and would he accept is a different question.

Almost assuredly they would offer. The fact he is even interviewing makes it concerning that he possibly would accept an offer from them.

Maybe, but he didn't accept MSU's offer last year, and while that's not as good a job as auburn, it comes with much more control. Taking the auburn job, especially right now, would not be a great move for a guy that has higher aspirations. Back when Kirby interviewed at auburn, they were willing to offer him too. Kirby asked Saban about it, and Saban told him to demand complete control of the program. That is when auburn turned the page. Could Sark take the job? Sure. But I think it is unlikely.

Bully for you! When have you strayed down 280 that far? They moved to greener pastures up in Inverness. I've got Texas co-workers impatiently waiting for Whataburger's Atlanta entry.

I used to stop there a lot on the way to Lake Martin (when Lloyd's or August's BBQ wasn't open). I enjoy some Whataburger and at the time, we didn't have any in Tuscaloosa. Now, there are 2 in Tuscaloosa, and I've yet to eat at either of them. Go figure.

I was always told to interview for any promotion you were invited to try for, even if you knew you were not going to take it. Firstly, it keeps your interview skills fresh. Secondly, if it is something even semi-publicly known it can drive more people to look your way. Sark will want to be a Head Coach somewhere, probably before Saban retires. It does nothing top hurt his stock if it is known a school with an NC in the last 10 years (and one that has played for two in that time) is looking his way.
