I really didn't dig deep into the story. Just caught the highlights, so to speak.

What was said was along the lines of they wouldn't host any recruits, but then turned around and had several members of an AAU group on campus to visit. It was "okay" because they weren't official (paid) visits ...being "their dime" and all.

What seems to be missed by a lot is this is the fourth time Pearl and his team have been involved in some "scandal" with the NCAA the last resulting in the show cause. How do you think those in the NCAA's enforcement arm look at Pearl?

Unfortunately, they look at Pearl as the head basketball coach at Auburn University with several, several, good lawyers. These lawyers have kept AU out of trouble with the NCAA for many years.

...was involved in a point shaving scandal with Boston College...
...was involved in secretly recording a player, then trying to get another school in trouble with recruiting...
...lied to them about the ordeal at Tennessee for no apparent reason other than covering his ass...
...as a coach who they placed a show cause upon...

And now, as a head coach who has an assistant involved with this FBI ordeal where the school has self-imposed penalties, suspended players via NCAA directives ...

You guys help me out here a bit ...

Remember the basketball coach in Texas who had a player murdered, then tried to make it look like a drug deal or something along those lines. Several years ago...TTU, maybe? What was his show cause?

And then this guy from Penn who just got 15 years slapped on him ...

All the signs I see point to the NCAA view on Pearl as one that doesn't bode well for them. That's echoed among their own right now.

The basketball coach you're referring to was Dave Bliss the HC at Baylor. One of his players, Pat Dennehy was murdered. He got a 10 year show-cause.
