Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson offered some sharp criticism of Tennessee and its new athletic director Phillip Fulmer in an interview with CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd.

"The athletic department there is perceived there as a cluster," Anderson told Dodd, according to a story Dodd published Thursday. "Their athletic director, now Phil Fulmer, in the athletic director's world is a pariah. It is not a good situation."

Fulmer seized the athletic director's role on Dec. 1, the day that John Currie was ousted after eight months on the job amid Currie's chaotic football coaching search.

Fulmer completed the 26-day search to replace Butch Jones by announcing the hire of Jeremy Pruitt on Dec. 7.

Anderson made a curious move of his own during the coaching carousel, hiring former NFL coach Herm Edwards, an ESPN analyst, to coach the Sun Devils.

Anderson is a former NFL agent. Edwards was his client.

Anderson also announced a restructuring of ASU's program to more of an NFL model using a general manager structure, with Edwards serving as overseer of ASU's "New Leadership Model."

Fulmer is a first-time administrator. He won 152 games in 17 seasons as Tennessee's coach, a stint that ended in 2008.

"Seized the athletic directors role." Did he "seize" the coaching job as well?

Which time? The time he "seized" that knife and buried it in Johnny Majors' back or possibly this time by thinking he can put someone in place and control him. He may find that Pruitt might not be as easy to work with as what the interviews led him to believe. I've heard and read several times that Pruitt is a real dick much like the man he coached under at Hoover High back in the day. :popcorn2:

They don't call SEC chaos the "fulmer cup" for nothing.

In the last few days I've seen mention of Fulmer "inviting" himself on recruiting trips. I thought, and still do, the Spurrier presence in UF's athletic buildings was/is a bad idea. Versus UT?

Tennessee was in such chaos.....and bringing bk the fat one was desperation....
He did stab Majors in the back...and probably Currie...thats his method...
The hire from Bama had to be hard...did he want Pruitt or did he think it might hurt Bama.... his hate of Bama...as he confesses....is strong...
A major program that has money...could have got an established HC....a proven HC ( guy at SMU?????)....and to take a chance on a Coordinator?????
The learning curve from coordinator to HC is hugh.... stay tuned.....will the Vols be patient??????

Speaking a bit too soon isn't he about who's a cluster. They went on record saying they were keeping the entire coaching staff intact (odd) while bring Herm in to be the CEO (odd).

They've already lost their DC to retirement, and now it appears they are losing their OC.

Who's leaving next...

Almost sounds like the AD (Herm's ex-Agent) had this hair-brained idea to fire the HC, keep the coaching staff and bring in a CEO to manage these guys. Herm is a cheerleader in my eyes.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the shit show at Tenn....but this guy has the nerves to throw a rock from his glass house. Fucking idiot.

I just got off a fb conversation about this where I stated nearly the same thing. He has a lot more to be concerned with in his own house before he goes after Phatlock.

My line of employment has allowed me to interact with Pruitt a couple of times. What you heard and read is accurate.

Let me get this straight....a ASU AD spokesman throwing shade at other schools. They just paid a pathetic coach 10 million to take a hike and haven't won shet since football helmets switch from leather to plastic.
It's my opinion we have to take a lot of this article with a big caveat: it's Dennis Dodd reporting. He's no Sallee, but he's definitely one that wants to create news (and I'm not implying this isn't a story to watch.)

Arizona State could be a good job. Right now, it's about a once in a decade program. They did win the PAC (a share with USC) in '07. There's a conference championship in Stallings last season here, '96, where they finished in the top five. In the 80's you'll find another.

As I recall there were folks calling for AZ St. to play Florida in the Sugar in '96.
