🏈 Assuming Bama Loses Coach Kirby Smart

To the original question, I believe the scuttlebutt on their disagreement in philosophy was on the read/react approach (Saban's) versus the stunt/blitz approach (Pruitt). I don't think he comes back unless Richt is done, and I'd be surprised even then.

If Kirby and Cochran are a package deal (and I've heard that a number of times), Smart better be at a marquee program or Cochran has no upside in pay. I'm not sure UGA would bring in Smart, but we can see how that goes - possible Pruitt survives the cutover in this case, but unlikely.

Here's an unlikely if we lose Cristobal. OL coach Miles? More likely than a Sunseri return, in my opinion.

It's a fun time of year. It'll be more fun to discuss once we have the NC trophy.

RTR,

Tim

IMO, Les takes a year off if he doesn't get a new HC role. But, he's likely to be highly sought after. Several of the open slots can afford him, but they won't have to pay him the full amount because he'll still be paid by LSU (similar to Kiffin's situation the last two years).

no. Les Miles.
:sarcasm:

Imagine Miles joining the staff after Kiffin or Cristobal move on to head coaching positions. We know he can coach Saban's recruits to be champions, our already ridiculous recruiting machine gets better, and Baton Rouge goes up in flames from all of the heads exploding. At the same time, Miles gets to take a year or two sabbatical from the stress of head coaching while setting up his next gig, with the possibility of being part of another championship program, instead of becoming a Corso-esque class clown on some talking heads sports show.

I don't know why some people would think Miles would be a good assistant coach under Saban. First, one of the endearing qualities of Miles is his press conferences. Under Saban there would be only one. You wouldn't hear from him all year long. He's about to be fired from LSU because people feel he didn't coach his teams up to expectations. If he didn't coach to expectations, is that what we would want at Alabama?

The list of coaching vacancies is long this year: Syracuse, Iowa State, USCe, USCw, Central Florida, Miami, Virginia Tech, Missouri, Maryland, Illinois, North Texas, Hawaii, Louisiana-Monroe. More will come after Saturday and the dominos will start to fall as HCs will leave one program for another and available coaches will also fill slots. Miles could be considered for USCw, Miami, Virginia Tech and even Missouri.

This is Kirby's year to become a HC. If he doesn't go this time then he never will but I believe he goes

As far as replacements I am not sure if some of y'all are serious. Miles???? lol Ogre???? loll

Actually if you want to spitball DC's I would say get Derick Mason. I don't think Vandy fires him but he is miserable (or seems to be) so see if we can lure him away. That would be hilarious to get a HC at an SEC school to quit and come be the Bama DC (tongue firmly in cheek here)

Wasn't Kiffin fired for not coaching up to expectations. .....Cristobal? ???

What are you basing that on?

He was getting his ass kicked in Mobile (by Craig) to the point the area was adjusted and Saban brought Lance in to the area.

If you like coaches who can recruit, Jeremy Pruitt is your guy. 247Sports named him National Recruiter of the Year back in 2012 when he helped Alabama haul in the nation's top recruiting class. Pruitt has the connections and savvy to bring the nation's top high school talent to College Park.

If you like coaches who can smother opposing offenses, Jeremy Pruitt is your guy. The Tide had top-10 passing efficiency defenses and top-five total and scoring defenses in each of Pruitt's three seasons coaching the defensive backs. The Seminoles allowed a paltry 12.1 points per game with Pruitt at the helm.

If you like winners, Jeremy Pruitt is your guy. Pruitt was on the Alabama staff when the Tide won it all in 2009 and coached the defensive backs during the Tide's title runs in 2011 and 2012. Pruitt led the Seminoles to the national title in his one season at FSU. That's four national titles under the tutelage of Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher and Kirby Smart.

The case for Jeremy Pruitt as Maryland's next head football coach

@AaronSuttles: RT @BruceFeldmanCFB: SOURCE: #Alabama DC Kirby Smart emerging as a front runner for #SouthCarolina vacancy:

Would be a great opportunity for him. Jim had to prove himself at Fort Collins before getting a chance at an SEC school. Expectations at SC would probably be reasonable for a couple years as well.

Probably would not be easy for him to pull recruits from Alabama that far.

There are some coaches that are good position coaches and some that are good coordinators. That was Kiffin. He's young enough to be an effective coordinator after failing at being a HC (multiple times). I don't see Miles going back to a position coach or coordinator. He's been at LSU as a HC for 11 years. How long was he HC at OkSU?

I've thought for a long time that Saban has given Kirby the C.I.W. position... Back in the day it blew my mind that Kirby never left after the Championship seasons.

We will find out this year. If he doesn't leave, I think he will be our next coach. USCe is their top candidate according to ESPN and will surely throw a lot of money at him... I hope he and our other defensive personnel stay... This years group has seemed to figure it out more so than any defensive staff we've had. The rotations and schemes have been tremendous. RTR

I've been saying this for a while.

A lot people will and still do say that "Bama isn't a program for a on-the-job head coach training". But, if we want to ccontinue The Process, who better to ensure that it continues than an assistant who's been working directly under Saban for 10+ years?

I think Kirby would do an awesome job.

My reason for thinkinghe stays....or takes a job that doesn't get as much media attention as the others....is experience. Coach Mac had some prior to coming to Alabama.....then took a stepping stone job, then jumped to Florida. I wouldn't want my first head coaching job to be 1) in the SEC
2) with an in state rival that is near the top with a relatively young coach doing well

But I'm selfish and don't want him to leave
