🏈 Arkansas' rescheduled game overblown as an advantage...

But I got some good hits in, right?

I've seen a few people start the theory that since the Arkansas vs Texas game was rescheduled that this would, in some manner, give them an extra week in preparation for the Alabama game weekend after next.

Facts, the way I see it, is no. This really doesn't have a bearing on our game on the 20th,

For one thing, in their practices this week they have been working on their game plan versus Tx. Now, in the middle of the week the players and the staff have to adjust their practice schedule along with the things they will be working on in reps to change their focus from Tx. to Bama.

I'll grant it'll give them a little rest but in the scheme of things it hurts Arkansas in the end. Now, they face UA, UT, UF and AU back to back weeks where earlier they had a break between UA and UF. Considering this change they'll likely change their off days as well to give their players some more rest going into this brutal 4 week stretch. That takes away from practice time on the field.

In reality, they get an extra day of practice, maybe two. That doesn't have a great deal of impact when looking at the forest instead of a few trees in front of you.

I respectfully disagree that this won't give Arky an advantage. I think the extra week of rest and additional prep time for Bama will be akin to what Tulane had. That's two teams of our first four that had the week off before they played us. I don't like that, and it lends itself to a brutal SEC run for us.

YOu see, even if they don't beat us, ala Tulane, they still play the heck out of you. They hit harder, they zone in on your playcalling better, and they have more opportunities to make plays.

Arkansas has played us so close through the years, and have won against us more times than I like to admit. Any disadvantage I can hang on arkansas, I'd love to.

Admittedly, they are not the team they were a year ago, but this is just the break they need to get a chance to beat us. This officially sucks.

Extra week of rest comes from where? They haven't been resting this week, they've been preparing for Tx. Granted, they might not be as banged up as they could have been but speculating on that is just speculation.

A comparison can't be made in Tulane not having a game before facing BAMA and Arkansas getting one extra day of practice/prep facing Alabama.

Weds. practice had Arkansas preparing for Tx. The staff at Arkansas would have spent Sunday reviewing game tape from Tx and putting the final touches on their game plan versus Alabama. Now, their schedule has be tossed. Good coaches don't spent day after day practicing for a individual team, they'll spend 2, maybe 3 days working on a specific team they are going to face.

I'd bet that practices this week in Fayetteville are now back to fundamentals and they will go back to their regular schedule come the beginning of next week.

Arkansas has been a tough opponent, sure. But, one of the reasons that they've played us so tough was because of the need Nutt had in defeating Alabama. His desire to leave this game with a W rivals that of Croom and Tuberville. In fact, I'd almost go as far as to say it exceeds those two.

Petrino won't have the same type of game motivation as Nutt had with Arkansas. Ole Miss, on the other hand, will likely fit that role in the next few seasons.

You want a disadvantage to lay on Arkansas? They don't have near the game day motivator on the sidelines now as they've had in the past.

I have been trying to tell some friends that...they will not listen.

They are in for a rude awakening. There is a bigger difference in the 2008 Bama team vs 2007, than there was in 2005 over 2004, or 2002 over 2000.

This won't be a game - it will be a bloodletting. The trickle down column is going to anger some hogs this week, but Tulane is 10x better than Arky. Arkie is comparable to WKU this season, but we will be more fired up for them.

Bama will have another 500 yards of offense this week - and may break 50 points scored.

It WILL be ugly.

Well said Big_Fan. I understand that we lost to LaMonroe last yeah but how can you not be a tad bit humbled when you're barely 2-0 over the likes of ULM and Western Illinois? I also love the usual comments of us "living in the past" though they brought it up...and I dare say talk about it more than we do... I also love the Spain reference... lol I've got a better one for him. George Washington and the founding fathers lived a long time ago...should we forget them because they're part of the past?

Just so you know, this topic has been linked on Hogville. The yokels are having fun with their delusion.

Personally, I don't hold a lot of concern with what they are saying right now over there.

And, since they are reading this, I'll share a bit more of the reasoning that this change of plans isn't that great of an advantage.

When the game was canceled it put more than a crimp in their practice/preparation that just "on the field situations."

Arkansas had several meetings scheduled with recruits when they were going to play Texas. When that game was canceled, they sent the majority of their staff on the road (as in the maximum allowed) to visit those guys in Tx.

That's means one thing. They were not in meetings with other coaches scheming and game planning on how to play against us.

Like any other team, they probably already have at least half of their game plan in place. Those things are worked out in fall camp when a staff will work on different systems. Putting that in perspective, we were working on defending a spread attack like WKU had about mid-way through our fall camp.

The 'Backs did get two days off for rest. That can't be anything but good for their team. Then again, looking at the other side of the coin, we were resting offensive and defensive players in the second quarter.
