šŸˆ Are our DB's taught to NOT turn their heads in defending passes?

I really don't think that is much of a problem at this point. The DBs are getting better with each game. Experience will solve many of the issues that we saw early on. One main thing that I see is that the DBs are almost always in position, not a lot of busted coverage issues. Notice, I didn't say it never happens, I am saying it doesn't happen very much.

We've had some costly penalties for this seems like in each game this year. We have made slight improvements, but still far from optimal. It could very well come back to bite us in a tight game. But yeah, it's been talked about enough, for now. At least until the point when a bad example of the face guarding without turning to find a pass gets us flagged on a game winning drive and jeopardizes a game. I don't think it's come close to anything like that yet, but it has kept some drives alive that should have ended.

I know against Wisconsin, 2 of our 3 pass interference penalties came on drives that ended in TDs. They were contributing factors to scores. 1 PI penalty against Ole Miss, it was on a TD scoring drive. 2 PI penalties against ULM, of course neither cost us points in the shut out. And none against UGA. So 6 PI calls against us, three assisting scoring drives. But what concerns me just as much are the passes we could have defended that were caught because we didn't turn the heads and the ball nearly grazed our players' helmets. That doesn't show on stat sheets but has also happened a number of times. But as the penalties go down, I think those will also.

We're 76th in the country in penalties per game, at 6.8 per game, and averaging 2 per game more than last year. I think this will come down, or I hope...

The Wisconsin game, with 11 penalties, really skews that statistic. IE: The Tide had a total of 11 in the two SEC games they've played.

I look more at the number of years per game than the total amount of flags per game. Right now, the Tide is averaging around 60 yards per game (Wisconsin had 120 yards in penalties against Bama.) Getting it back to "normal" means getting it down to around 40 per game. Bama has had two seasons with better numbers than that 40 average; '11 and '12.

Interesting look. Since Coker got outside containment the corner has two poor choices. We see what happens when he stays with Ridley. If he comes up on Coker, Jake has an easy flip to Ridley for the TD. This looked like run all the way, but it could be our version of the R/P option, and none of our OL were more than three yards downfield.

Our DB's not turning to look for the ball has been an issue for the past three years and they all have had issues with it. Go back and watch a lot of our games from the past several years. Cyrus is right there with the rest of our DB's. So the "100 % completely untrue" is simply an emotional reaction. I just watched him do it in the Georgia game that setup their FG.

Its not an emotional reaction, its a fact. If you have a problem with facts take it up with the videos..

I see you left out the Georgia game. The most recent one. But that's okay. To say this hasn't been a problem is being naive. You have other people in this thread acknowledging all of our DB's have had a problem with this. So I guess their eyes are also deceiving them but your's aren't. Gotcha.

Are you serious right now? I dont even remember the particular play you are talking about but I think they actually threw at Cyrus maybe twice in the entire game... But your whole point is "our DBs dont get their head around" and that Cyrus is one of those that never gets his head around. I give you about 10 examples that he does just that, with video, you give one example where he didnt (because I guess there are cornerbacks out there even in the NFL that ALWAYS get their head around on every single play right? RIGHT?) and somehow that is proof? Good lord.

And I havent said that it hasnt been a problem, I (like many that you ignore) have pointed out that it is something that comes with experience. You like to ignore that the majority of the corners that are playing right now are either true or redshirt freshmen.

This problem is three years old. Not just this season. I pointed out the Georgia game because you said my claim was "100% untrue". I was pointing out the most recent example. So now we're down to 99 % untrue. I'm not going back over every game the past three seasons and point out all of the incidences of when it happened. I don't think I need to. It's been a problem that has played a major impact in our games over the last three years and I simply asked was it something that was coached or not because the problem has been so bad it was the next obvious question. Then all of a sudden people start standing up throwing feces all over the place like i had pissed on their brand new pair of church shoes.

My "100% untrue" comment was directed at your claim that Cyrus is just as "guilty as the others" which you know good and damn well was the case, that claim is 100% untrue. It has been a problem the last TWO years, with inexperienced corners. Why are you trying to pretend like Dre Kirkpatrick, Javier Arenas, Dee Milliner, DeQuan Menzie, Kareem Jackson, etc. weren't All American/All SEC players at Bama. They all had no problem getting their head around but go back so why in the hell would you think its something that just simply isnt taught now? Does that make any sense at all to you? and watch Dee Milliner as a freshman, doing the same things you are whining about freshmen doing now.
