A year after being forced to withdraw from the inaugural College Football Playoff selection committee over health issues, Ole Miss legend Archie Manning has officially resigned from the committee, Bill Hancock and the CFP announced Friday.

That's the bad news. The good news is that the CFP has wasted no time in naming a replacement: former Vanderbilt and Furman coach Bobby Johnson, who a CFP statement reads was "chosen unanimously" this week by the organization's management committee.

"Everyone on the committee is going to miss Archie," Hancock said. "He is an all-star and he knows college football inside and out. On the other hand, we are delighted to welcome Bobby to the committee. His extensive knowledge of the sport and his notable integrity make him a perfect member of this group."

Johnson played cornerback and wide receiver at Clemson before graduating in 1973. After enjoying great success as coach at Furman, Johnson was named Commodores head coach following the 2001 season and would eventually be named SEC Coach of the Year in 2008 after ending the program's 53-year bowl victory drought.
