I have thoughts on Texas and expectations.

Most of the computer models coming into this season spotted Texas as a team that overachieved last season and could be in line for some regression this season.
Humans who rank teams (AP included) generally did not.

I will pat myself on the back here just a little by saying I was skeptical of a Texas step forward this year, too. Mostly because that's what the numbers were saying.
I hear a lot that the preseason rankings set unrealistic expectations and I think that can be true.

But I also look a Texas and see fans looking to run Tom Herman out of town. So clearly they weren't buying into what the numbers were saying. Because if they were, then while 7-5 (at best) is a bad year, is it really that bad of a season?

And while I think the preseason polls reinforce expectations, i think the expectations would be there even without the preseason polls. If Texas wasn't preseason No. 10, would Texas fans have come into this season like: No idea what to expect from this team? It is a blank slate

I use Texas as the obvious example here but really this could apply to any team that failed to "meet expectations"

End thread.

Since their win over UGA last year and the "We're back" from Ehlinger several of us have been pointing to Texas and saying they're not as good as a lot are saying. It came up again with the conversations about "LSU's big win over Texas."

To me, this is one of the best stories of 2019. It started with a kiss and made its way to a butt with Herman. And here's where it gets funny to me.

mutters under breath Texas has the same record as Tennessee

And like Tennessee.....not a really quality win....( well give Texas 1)
Tennessee...Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, UAB,uSCe, Chattanooga
Texas....LaTech, Rice, Kansas, WVU, K-State ( pretty good there) OkState...
....but.....Tennessee says they are back...Texas ...not of much anymore....
Neither are really.... unless 7-5 or 6-6 is back

i believe i recall taking mild flack for stating the lsu win over texas wasn't something to hang your hat on. it wasn't. the win over florida with 40+ had more significance given florida's defensive character. also the win over Auburn.
