📝 Anyone heard where we stand with Devonta Pollard?

We do have two scholarships to give (possibly three). Other than Pollard it is not clear who we are pursuing. Recruiting information is not as easy to come by under CAG as it was under CMG. Plus, he has shown that he is willing to recruit overseas. Unless Pollard bulks up a lot I'd expect him to be a wing player in college. With our best post player graduating we will probably add a big man.

My numbers are different from yours. If Tony doesn't return, that leaves two. Are you counting Hale? I'd consider him a 4, but I can't bring myself to put the P in front of the F.

One could assume we can eliminate Miss. St. now.
Georgertwon is in the mix for him. I think he cancelled a visit to Ky.Terry, you are right about the numbers. If TM leaves we have two to give. I had not adjusted my numbers for having Steele back on the roster. If only we could find a recruit who was 6'8" and built like Steele.

Shannon Hale will be in the 2013 class. He is a 'tweener right now, in the same size range as Mitchell, Cooper. If he bulks up some I could see him playing the 4, but I like him better as a big 3. Of course it all depends on matchups. What I am hoping we will find is a true 4 who could play 5 in a pinch. Those types who are as athletic as JM sadly don't come along often.

I just want somebody that can and will shoot the damn ball from further than 10ft from the basket.

Agreed. I got to watch CPA beat Mitchell in the Tennessee AA championship. CPA had four kids that did not "look" like basketball players, and I guarantee they can outshoot anyone Bama had on the floor this year.

I pray we can recruit a basketball player, just one, and not just athletes. CAG, please recruit a shooter.

He has shooters, they need to develop. I look for Releford to finally have his touch and be able to FINALLY hit the perimeter shots. IF we get Pollard it will mean we will have more height and will leave Lacey, Levi, and Releford alone.

Good point. Without Green we can't really count on going to the low post for our offense. Our young shooters should realize that the responsibility for points will be on them. They should be less reluctatnt to put up a shot when they have a good look. I'd love to see Randolph add some upper body strength. That would make him an even better defender as well as stronger when he does go to the basket. Cooper has a sweet looking stroke. He just needs to add confidence.

Can Pollard shoot?

Here is his stat line from his senior year. He didn't shoout a lot of threes, but his 34% figure means a defender would have to follow him outside. He was 62% from inside the arc. I'd discount that a bit because his height and athleticism would have gotten him a lot of easy looks which he probably won't get in college. he was 68% from the foul line. One part of his stat line that impresses me is the number of times that he gets to the line, upwards of 10 times a game. His % there can be improved with work.

That's a good find. I tried to find Randolph's percentage on 3's from his senior year but couldn't. I'm wondering what the fall off would be as Pollard enters the collegiate game. I'm certain CAG would know that right off hand, and it wouldn't be the same for all players. It would be interesting to see some sort of stat on how much players' shooting percentage is affected when they come to college. If the decrease is say 5 percent...

I'd love to see some of the guys like Florida's Murphy from high school and then in college.

All that being said, I'm sure CAG is trying to get the best players he can. I hope he can find or manufacture some shooting. Thanks again.

Grant was known for his recruiting when he was at VCU so I see no problem with him getting the players we need. IF we do get Pollard it will be the second straight year he has gotten a 5 star, developing them is key though. I think he(CAG) does a great job though, because lets be honest, he's convincing kids to sway away from these basketball schools and come to a football oriented school to play basketball.
