🏈 Any Update on Darius?

I have been searching the internet in hopes of finding an update on Darius status. Does anyone know anything about the NCAA ruling other than it happens when it happens? It seems like it took them forever to sort out the Ingram/Julio fishing trip.

It sure would be nice to have him back for the Penn State game. By projections that I have seen from the so-called experts, thats probably not going to happen.

To add...

We'll get a better idea this afternoon. Saban normally releases the depth chart and other pertinent news on the Monday preceding the start of the season.

That said...

You won't find a lot of concern about our defensive line from me with or without Marcel.

I just hope the NCAA doesn't just go ballistic and 86 Marcel for the entire year. Not that the defense would just flounder without him, but it sure would suck for him as a player and his possible future with the NFL.

Hey...what do you know about a 3-4? :nana:

:moon:
i do admit the humor in the fact that along the way to the top of the college football world, Saban has initiated a trend to the 3-4. i'm definitely happy to say that this was one concern of mine which has been proven to be ... superfluous.

but answer me this, don't you see Dareus as one of those "difference-makers" needed for championship contention, particularly with a vulnerable secondary and young defense in general?

I don't discount the fact he's a "difference-maker" on defense. I do weigh his impact against the fact that we are legitimately three deep on the defensive line.

I also believe you are buying into the media/pundits lines about how many graduated on defense last year. By that, I'm specifically referring to your comment about a "young defense."

Heck...take Chapman as an example. How many games has he played in? Over twenty I know.

Starts? Yeah, we lack those numbers. In game experience? We've got that.

I was discussing this with someone the other day. Chapman played just as much as Cody....if not more. Upshaw, Nico Johnson, Hightower and Mark Barron all have started at one point and played significant playing time over the last year or two. The only positions that we actually lack experience is CB. Luckily, this is one of Saban's most successful positions AND we have some super talented kids ready to step in. I don't see the lacking experience on defense. I see half of the defense with a lot of game experience.

Oh man. What a way to start defending the title. I know it's only San Jose State, but I sure do feel sick right now. First, the NCAA is dragging out the whole Marcel issue, just like they did last season with that stupid fishing bs involving Mark and Julio. Then Ingram gets injured. I have lots of confidence in Trent, but I just have a bad feeling that Mark is done for the season. There is something not adding up about all this. I hope I'm wrong, but my gut tells me that there is more to this issue than meets the eye.
