| FTBL Any "Lines" out yet

We are where we are. The facts have been stated many times by CNS. We can only play one at a time and this one is the next. We'll take a call that goes our way and take a "W" when we get it. But we must realize that our bag isn't quite full yet and we still have some shopping to do. For all of us...the times they are a changin. It won't be now. But it won't be much later either. Just wondering if there are early predictions out yet. RTR

I don't know if I'm getting this right, but does it state we're favored by 1? That can move during the week, right? So, basically it will come down to even or does Vegas allow an "even"?

Your correct Delta Bama is -1 (or a 1 point fav)

The line of each game moves according to wagers placed heavily on one side. Ex. If 80% of the bets are going on Bama this week the line would likely move to Bama -2 or even -3. (I look for UT to be a slight fav by the end of the week)

and yes the line could be "even" its called a "PICKEM" which of course means you pick the winner.

One other thing for those that arent gamblers.

Lines are set to get even amounts of money on each side. If the casinos (or bookies) get 50/50 action on both teams they automatically collect the 10% "juice money" on all losing bets. In other words to win $100 you must wager $110. (if you win you get your orginal 100 back and collect the "winning 100. If you lose the bet all 110 is gone)

So lines arent exactly made as how Vegas thinks the game will go they are made with the intent of getting even action.

Lines are further determined by demand. I.E. if more people pick Bama than are willing to pick UT, UT will get a larger handicap to encourage more bets. In bookmaking, balance is everything.

There is an old saying when it comes to sports betting. Always take the home underdog. In other words, if you are the underdog and you are at home, more times than not you will cover. Not necessarily win, but cover.

The line has now moved to EVEN where it is still posted. It's off the board most places, meaning they are waiting to hear the status on a injured player before re-posting the game. I expected UT to be about a 7-9 point fav so I can't believe it's EVEN. I'm with Lenny on this one, I'd be loading up on UT if I was betting this game and I'd hope to lose.

I don't understand gambling, and I don't understand why you'd ever bet against your own team. :?

Actually I should have stated that better. If I was a betting man I would load up on UT if they were +7 or so. I have and never would bet against UA. I just would not be able to do it.

That's the thing, Delta, if you're gambling to make money, you can't bet with your heart. You have to place the bet that gives you the best odds to make money. Personally, I never bet on sports because too many factors are out of my control, and no matter how much profit possibility, I couldn't bring myself to bet against Bama :D .

Technecally, you can bet against your team with your team winning and still win. Or vice-versa, for example, if you bet on Bama this past weekend you would have lost since Bama was a 6 point favorite and we only won by 3.

Question:
At the time you place your bet, the line at that time never changes for you? If the odds change later in the week, does it efect your bet at all?

No once you bet your locked into that number.

Bama is still a solid 1 point fav across the board.

Look like it will stay Bama as a fav or Pick.

Hopefully the people in Vegas know something I dont.

I'm looking at some of the gambling "advice" sites and they are all pointing to UT being 3-0 at home but 1-2 on the road as a reason to pick Bama.
