🏈 Answers coming for nation's most fascinating coach: Gene Chizik

Maybe the only thing his tenure in Ames taught us is that Dan McCarney -- the man who preceded Chizik at Iowa State and the current defensive line coach at Florida -- is one hell of a coach for leading the Cyclones to five bowl games in 12 seasons. Bear in mind Iowa State has appeared in nine bowl games in its history, which dates back to 1892

My logic says Dan is one hell of a coach for winning at ISU....Chizik Didn't win at ISU....so he's not one hell of a coach!!!

And the whole comparison to Carrol not fitting in NFL (over his head) is not the same as Chizik being over his head as a Head Coach at ISU.

I mean, you do realize the same could be said for Saban if you really believe that? Sometimes, I don't think it's a matter of being "over your head" if you don't succeed as a coach on the pro level. You can be a victim of the organization that you are a part of as well.

With regards to Chizik, the only thing that can truly be said is he is a good Defensive Coordinator. ISU is a vast wasteland of college football and coaches and it's been that way forever save a few decent years. ISU has absolutely no recruiting base and regional powers to compete with in Nebraska and Oklahoma. It certainly doesn't help having Missouri recruit better and the in-state Hawkeyes cherry pick the rest of the Iowa talent base which cannot be that great to begin with just based on population.

The tale will be told over the next several years as to whether or not the Chiz can cut it as a head coach. There are no excuses to be made for him now except for Saban.

I Understand about Saban and Carrol and how you can just be in a bad situation.

I just don't think the author comparing Carrols carrer with Chiziks is a fair assumption. Carrol didnt make it in the NFL but did in Big Time College. Chizik didnt make it in Small Time College but just might at Big Time College.

I'm sure it's very difficult to recruit to ISU...but as we all know the previous coach did fairly well and lead them to 60% of their career Bowl Games. Chizik...not so good.

But you are right....the next couple of years will tell the tale on Chiz. He could end up just fine if he keeps good assistants around him.

I agree with you. That was a bad analogy to compare PC to GC, no doubt.

Aubrun fans seem to think he is the cats meow, but they were saying the same crap last year about Franklin and the spread....

Cody Burns for Heisman,-insert stupid unrealistic comment here-, etc
