🏈 Another view of the Jalen versus Tua QB competition

I've watched about a third of that. I think the guy overstates how easy some of those throws are, but he's pretty on point. And funny AF.

The only real question I have at this point is why wasn't #13 playing long before?

If Mac Jones as is good as people are saying, why does he stay and deal with all of this?
Good question. Who knows his mindset.

It's already getting muddy in fan conversations with some already stating "look for a Tagovailoa to start at Bama for the next five years."

I think that question will be answered at the end of this 2018 football season. Hopefully the two current QB commits will stick with Bama and they will be needed of Mack were to leave along with #2. With that said Mack has already taken his redshirt year so might have to go the 3 year graduate route and then transfer with 2 full years to play at his new gig. I hope he sticks with The Tide.

I posted for those very reasons. He makes it out that EVERY throw is so easy, but he does nail it at times. He is also hilarious!!! I think to answer your question though, it came down to finally trusting #13. Did CNS trust him and did the team trust him? I think the answer finally hit CNS when he answered a question from Rece Davis in a recent interview. He said it prepping for the playoffs, Jalen missed a few days with the flu and Tua took all of the reps at one and he hit on 54/58 passing against our 1's!!! 93%!!!!!!

While he does lean toward hyperbole with the"I could make that throw" the underlying point is those throws are routine throws that take little in the way of reading or anticipating the defense or the receivers and most D1 QBs will make those throws. On the other hand all the overthrown deep balls, thrown behind balls, late late late throws all take some level of situational awareness and that proverbial clock in your head. Jalen doesn't have that and IMO that kind of thing can rarely be taught by this level.

Say what you will about CNS's handling of Tua before the NCG, but Saban is an old school traditional, "dance with the one that brung ya" kind of guy. And, maybe up until that point, he hadn't seen enough from Tua to warrant a drastic change until the couple days that Jalen was sick.

Maybe it took all season for Tua to stop taking so many chances in practice and turning the ball over. Maybe when Tua got all the 1st team reps while Jalen had the flu, "the light came on" for him. We all know that Saban would rather have a QB that doesn't risk losing games over one that might win some, but makes too many risky mistakes.

Maybe CNS FINALLY saw Tua reign in the carelessness while Jalen was out and the reward outweighed the risks at that point.

Some of y'all doubting the highest paid coach in football with 6 championships like you know more. Ninja, please.

That's a lot of maybes.

Pretty spot on though.

I think that Jalen will start the opener and play for two or three series. Repeat in the second half.

But my biggest worry is this scenario (other than injuries to both QBs). What if Tua gets the nod for L'vlle and plays horribly. Multiple bad decisions with fumbles and interceptions where the game is in jeopardy. It could happen. Now CNS has to make a different type decision. Sticking with Tua could potentially alienate Jalen and his confidence. Putting Jalen in could damage Tua's confidence.
