🏈 An eye on Michigan State ...

The HerdButthole had a special on after the football game. He still not big on Bama and his guest either. His pick OU big time, Bama just enough, then OU. Because OU all around team, when Bama is missing some in spot. Why so much hate on Bama, but I guess I should know Bama has always has hates, 1966,1978 voters would do anything to keep Bama down.

"If the game gets to the point where the Crimson Tide is having to throw the football, Colquhoun said Michigan State should win.

"If I was a betting man, I'd take that bet, especially with how our secondary is playing," Colquhoun said. "I think we're playing outstanding right now. We're playing flawlessly, no one is worrying about anything, and that's how you have to play."

Well Ridley has his bulletin board material.

I have a feeling that by the 4th quarter we're going to be running through them like **** through a 'Big Ten' horn.
You got to remember these guys kept tOS from getting a 100 yards, also Iowa too. Going key on Henry he not ran against anyone this year. he not going get that RAHY.

Remember, Elliott only had 12 carries for the game against Michigan State. It isn't like State actually shut him down as much as it was play calling that limited Elliott. Iowa's #1 back Canzeri, I believe, was hurt going into the game and re-aggravated the same injury.
I tend to agree with @AFF, Florida and LSU and several other fronts are as good if not better than Michigan State.

Fun Fact:

HTWDH = 1986 rushing yards and 23 rushing TDs

The entire Sparty Team = only 2089 yards rushing and 24 rushing TDs

I expect a good game, but simply too much Bama and DH in the second half. I like our secondary and front 7 to disrupt the passing game much more than I like Spartys chances of attempting to replicate what better Ds have tried in stopping the Beast. Ridley and Stewart will be factors over the first 3 qtrs until the inevitable happens and the King holds court in the 4th.

Sparty comes in as a one dimensional team, which the triumvirate of CNS, Smart, and Pruitt will exploit and destroy.

Does this mean anything? You be the judge.

2015 Pass Defense rankings:

IF you look at the NCAA site on pass defense efficiency (top 50 listed) rankings two things you'll notice. One, Michigan State isn't there and two, over half of Bama's 2015 opponents are there.

BUT, you be the judge.

You can't expect college kids to have perspective or be swayed by facts
Fans either.

In this same conversation yesterday with a guy that's wearing Sparty gear everywhere except church. He was QUICK to point out (after hearing me make the comparison) that MSU has played two teams in the top 30 in passing. He didn't appreciate me saying "the two Mississippi schools are ranked higher."

He may have gotten a little frustrated as our conversation continued ... four in the top 40 for Bama, etc.

.image.pngCheck out the comment from Alex Dyke. This guy definitely hasn't watched any of the BAMA games. Henry does get his yards between the tackles, but he down right gashes teams off tackle!! Ridley has and can bust the top off of a defense, but he has done most of his damage in the short and intermediate stuff. Oh by the way, I believe our defense is pretty damn good at 3 and outs and limiting a team from moving the chains.

That's actually going to be a key match up stats wise. Msu O is 5th in the nation at converting on 3rd down at 50.53%. Bamas D is 6th in the nation in stopping teams on 3rd down only allowing 27.92% conversions on third this year.

The reverse is the MSU D at 35th nationally allowing 35% conversion rate on third. The UA O has been less than impressive converting only 36.41 % of third downs, which is 93rd in the nation.

For Bama's D, they just need to do what they do, which led to allowing the fewest first downs per game in the nation. The Bama O has to avoid negative plays on early downs as their poor third down conversion rate is largely tied to the high negative plays over the year that put them behind the chains early.

50% is an incredible conversion rate on third down for Sparty, which accounts for their success in large part for TOP (10th nationally). However, in spite of Bamas poor 3rd diwn conversion rate, they trail Bama in TOP for two major reasons: BAMA is more reliant on the ground game and they convert 1st downs more frequently on earlier downs.

Third down success will be more crucial for MSU O than Bama O as MSU has been more dependent on it throughout the year with many more close games. Bama obviously needs to convert, but their success has been more closely tied to explosive plays and conversions on early downs.

Pretty much says that MSU 3rd down defense is on par with about half of the teams Bama played this season; probably 75% of the SEC schedule.

Why Michigan State's run defense ranking is deceiving

This is a bit promising. I think we'll still see Bama start out the same way they always have: few screens to spread them out, then start handing the rock off
I read this yesterday when Zentiz published it, read it against just now, and I still think this is one of the worst written pieces I've seen this year. My composition teacher in elementary would have flunked me if I'd written this piece.

The premise: The ranking is deceiving.
The evidence: I'm assuming it's the games
The conclusion: No where to be found.

How is it deceiving?
