🏈 An Alabama Pipeline - Town Creek, Alabama

I echo Terry's sentiments, pj. Having lived in North Alabama (Decatur) during the 70's & 80's, you are stirring some memories.

Can't wait to read the piece on Kerry Goode. Whenever I hear KG's name, I can't help but think of the Boston College opener in '84 and the two contrasting halves of fortune for Goode.

I imagine that 85 playoff game Grant referred to was one that I happened to be at with my dad. It was against old Warrior High School at Warrior. Pierre ran all over the place in the first half and was in street clothes for the second. Warrior had a solid team that year and was totally outgunned.

I witnessed their State Championship game in 1982. They beat McKenzie High to win it. I was in the 8th grade at Mckenzie and my brother was a senior playing for Mckenzie. Pierre, Chris and Kerry Goode all played on that Hazewood team. Kerry was good, but it was Chris that did the most damage. Pierre was young and didn't play much.

I live about 10 min. from Town Creek and the rumor around here is that they are going to merge Hazlewood and Hatton together next year so this was the last year for Hazlewood. Not sure on this but wonder if anyone else has heard this

I still know some folks in Town Creek. I'll call and see what they say.

That school is so small it would actually make sense, but I'd sure hate to see it happen.

I'm in Decatur and I have heard this as well. They are also trying to combine a few other schools as well. I know the parents at Speake are trying to stop it with a lawsuite but not sure how thats going to work out.

I live in Town Creek.

Last I heard, the consolidation wasn't going to happen. I graduated from Hatton and live in Town Creek now.

Being from Hatton, Hazelwood was our biggest rival. They were the last game on the schedule. Hatton had never beat Hazelwood as long as I could remember. Until my sophmore year.

We finally beat them.

We toredown the goalposts and had tshirts made up that read "The Creek is going dry".

The next year, they beat us 88-0. I don't think we ever beat them again.

Alot of talent came out of this school.

I think it's great that some small schools are going to get some recognition.

I'm looking forward to this feature.

Just another reason this is the best Bama football site....bar none.

I went to Troy in the mid to late 80's and a home town friend of mine roomed with a guy from Town Creek that also played football there and walked on at TSU. His name was Johnny (can't remember the last name). Anyway he told the story of his high school being up by 50+ points at half time and one of the Goode's picking up a fumbled kickoff to start the 3rd quarter and handing it back to the player on the opposing team that fumbled the ball. I have no way of knowing if this was true or not and actually don't want to hear if it was false because I have laughed a many of times telling that story.

Rooster, thank you for that link.Consiidering the glacial pace that these matters move at once courts and lawyers get involved, it is hard to see how any changes could be made in time for the next school year. I know that Lawrence county being mainly rural and agricultural, has a tiny tax base as far as supporting its schools. If memory serves, years back Lawrence County filed a lawsuit in state court over the funding issue and won, but never got anything out of it because the legislature refused to do anything about it.

I agree Psy. I think the Creek and Courtland will still be open next year. It sure would seem strange if not I'm so use to having Deshler Colbert County and Hazlewood and Courtland all playing on Friday nights sure makes for alot of football talk on sat. and one should look up the winning records of these 4 schools and just think they are all so close to each other
