The betting line has moved for Alabamaās 2016 season opener against USC, but the defending national champion Crimson Tide is still a double-digit favorite over the Trojans for their Sept. 3 showdown in Arlington, Texas.
Alabama is now a 13-point favorite over its 2016 season-opening foe, according to 5Dimes.com. The Crimson Tide opened as a 14-point betting favorite over USC shortly after the 2015 ended on Jan. 19, according to 5Dimes.
The eighth season-opening contest inside Jerry World will be the eighth meeting between the two storied programs and the first regular-season matchup since the 1978 season -- a game USC defeated the Crimson Tide by a score of 24-14 in Birmingham. Alabama and USC also faced off in the 1985 Aloha Bowl. The Crimson Tide won that contest by a score of 24-3.
Alabama leads the all-time series against USC, 5-2, and will look to increase the win-column number on Sept. 3 when the Crimson Tide begins its quest to defend its title inNick Sabanās 10th season at the helms of the UA football program.
āWe always have tried to play a good opponent in a neutral-site game for the last 8-9 years, and thatās benefitted us,ā Saban said Thursday. āI think it benefits our team in the offseason in terms of their development. I also think if you can have success in that game it sort of benefits your opportunity, but also when you play a good opponent and you donāt have success, it can really put you in a tough situation.
āWe like it because they are a quality opponent, they do have a lot of good players, theyāre well-coached and it gives our players something to really work hard in the offseason and fall camp to get ready for a big first game.ā
