I love Julio man. He just has that quiet confidence that is very rare with big time receivers, and you can really tell he doesn't like all the attention nor the media. Kinda like Coach Saban I guess.

I can understand, to a degree, where those stories stemmed from.

When he was being recruited he always remained off by himself: quiet and reserved hanging out mostly with whomever attended the recruiting weekend with him.

Notice, Ingram is mentioned as being with him during this interview session.

That said, it was interesting to me that you didn't see those stories of him being a prima-donna coming from Oklahoma or Alabama camps. They were coming from fan bases that had zero chances of landing his signature.

I do wonder what kind of reaction he'll receive from some of the talking heads when he gets to the NFL. He's going to be so different from the receivers that lead the league right now.

First of all, it's sad that you have to add a disclaimer to a comparison b/c there are a group of people out there that would feel a need to say "he's no Jerry Rice." I'm glad that attitude has reached this forum in epic proportions like it has on other forums.

Now, as to your comparison...

I can't recall any episodes with Rice that put him in the same light as T.O., Moss, Ocho, etc. He always struck me as a quiet player off the field who let his actions on the field speak for themselves.

Jerry Rice was easily my favorite player growing up. He defines a professional in my book. He wasn't always the biggest or fastest, but he sure could run routes and catch the ball.

He obviously wasn't a loud mouth and I think that had something to do with me liking him so much.

It's so easy to make comparisons. You hear it all the time. "Player A" is going to be the next Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, etc. Most don't live up to the hype for several reasons. Some of those are because the player just isn't that good or they don't have the desire.

The hype is real with Julio. You can measure size, speed, agility. You can't measure desire and/or grit. You can that this young man is burning with the desire to be the best. You don't see freshmen get hit and drag players for 5 more yards. Much less when he's suffering from several injuries. I almost feel sorry for the DB's that will attempt to cover him for the next couple of years.

I agree, this kid for sure has the size, and ability. He showed me this past year that he has the determination and grit. Heres to 3 more years of Julio Jones making NFL type corners look like little boys. :cheers:
