🏈 Alabama vs Auburn: It's not about the past, it's about Friday.

Terry, that was a good read my friend. I was a part of that 89 team and I have vivid memories. It is funny how opposing teams' fans like to say that" Bammers live in the past" when they continually bring it up. I have been even keel this week with a bunch of barners roaming around here at work. I'm waiting til Monday to let it all out. Since I teach PE, I have access to the sound system and it will no doubt be blaring "Sweet Home Alabama" all day long.

Great stuff, Terry. I hadn't really thought about it being 700 + days since they've scored on us. That being said, what I'd like for us to do is launch another long scoreless streak against them. We shut them out four straight years (1959-1962). If you throw in the last quarter of the 1958 game they went 17 straight quarters without scoring on us, 18 straight without a touchdown (2nd quarter of 1962.)

And no matter what the talking heads say, the best team nearly always wins.

I can only think of one or two times when the underdog won. Of course, 1989. But I believe the 2001 win was also an upset, right? I think they might have been a favorite in 2005, though I don't know why, as we came in with a 9-1 record. Certainly they opened a can on us. Still the score was close.

2001 was an upset (a big one at that 31-7!)
2002 was an upset (you know who can be blamed for that one)
2005 is the one that keeps coming back to me. I don't know what team was favored, but we have to admit we knew we had problems then. If I remember correctly we beat Miss. State that year with no offensive TD's and lost our center (Closner) as well. We then went on to lose to LSU in overtime the week prior. So, I'm trying to make myself feel better by knowing it was a totally different situation back then. It spiralled out of control early that day at Jordan Hare (21-0 Auburn), and the thought of that possibility just sickens me. I know, I know, totally different team, talent and leadership now.

I think I read that 91% of the time the team that is supposed to win does win. Hope that is the case for obvious reasons.:a:

05 was gut wrenching because of SHULA'S offensive offense. Croyle was so good but had no O line to protect him. This year is different. This team is focused and know exactly what they are capable of.

If you look at the "upsets" in a little more detail you'll find it is a rare game indeed where the "upsetter" isn't a pretty good team in its own right. The 2001 game was an upset only in the domination that day. Considering our offensive problems in 2005 aafter Prothro got hurt, and that they were pretty good anyway. 2002 still irks me. Franchione's body was on the sidelines but his head was already in Aggie land.

The 1984 game is one of the few where one team was nationally ranked, the other struggling and the lesser team won. That was the "Wrong way Bo" or "I waxed the dude" game.

Living out of state I don't have as many around me. But, I do have some that I run across daily. They don't work in my department, on my floor in fact, but it sure seems every time I go up to the cafeteria on the top floor I'll run into one of them.

Very few comments from that group lately. But, losing five out of the last six takes the wind out of the most hard core fan.

Like I mentioned...I might just go off next week if one of those that said "probational penalties didn't make a difference in their wins" pulls a "lack of depth" when they lose.

Terry, you know the "lack of depth" excuse is coming. They have already been warming it up along with the refs conspiring to put us in the SECCG undefeated. I've already heard it from the ones I work with. I told them that it was funny that now it is legitimate when they sign kids that can't get in but the NCAA cripples us and it isn't legit. More Barner logic I guess.
