A source close to the Alabama Crimson Tide football program this morning tellsFor Whom the Cowbell Tolls that the school, in conjunction with its engineering department and the Paul W. Bryant museum, will roll out the former Crimson Tide legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant as the ESPN College Gameday guest picker on Saturday... in hologram form.

The legendary coach passed away over thirty years ago, yet through the miracles of science, the school will be able to recreate the famous coach's likeness for the camera using the latest in technology along with film and audio clippings from the Bryant museum. The hologram will be lifelike in size, although it will be limited in its ability to discuss certain schools outside of the south and without swearing profusely when mentioning Auburn or scholarship limitations.

Reached for comment at his weekly dinner at Nick Saban's house, SEC commissioner Mike Slive declined to go on record but did tell FWtCT that the SEC will likely purchase the hologram for use on the SEC Network, and that it will be worked in as the eventual replacement of Paul Finebaum on his daily radio show.

The hologram reportedly beat out Melissa Joan Hart and that dude who played the kid from Sling Blade for the honor of joining Chris, Desmond, Lee, and Kirk on stage to pick games on Saturday.

Maybe David Feherty or Robert Horry? As long as it's someone with Bama ties. I'll never forget the LSU game in T-town when they brought in a former LSU pitcher as the guest picker... I think it was 2011 game we lost 9-6 and Brian Wilson was the pitcher from San Fran. It's supposed to be someone with ties to the home team. Or at least it is 99 times out of 100... :rant2:

I haven't gotten over this, and you spoke somewhat close to it with having someone with ties to the school representing us when stories are told, but ESPN did a 30 for 30 on the SEC and it's fan bases. They got a celebrity or important figure from each program that they used to narrate the traditions and all of that for each team. None of you could even guess who they used for us, unless you have seen the documentary. They chose Mellisa Joan Hart!!! I was severly pissed off about it all. She is a Yankee that said she had no clue Alabama had football till about 5 years ago when she got married to an Alabama fan. I could not for the life of me believe the director and casting could select someone that had never been to Alabama the state, knew we had a football team, or even gone to the school. We have our fair share of important high profile individuals they could have selected, but we had an ambassador that had no history or no affiliation with our school. Still beside myself on that one.

Me too, I think that those game day guys should pick our own doemasters to be the guest picker.

You realize that you also described Eli Gold right?

That's fine, it doesn't hurt my feelings. I grew up as a Georgia fan and listening to Larry Munson, and I find him way more exciting than Gold. I just don't feel the excitement when Gold is announcing the big moments. I guess I just expect something I won't get, because when CBS is always playing the call of the game, I just don't hear the exctiment and enjoyment that I personally feel. A lot of people like him, but he's not my cup of tea. And I guess folks feel the same way about Verne and Gary.

BUT, after all that, he atleast has tenure with the program and knows Alabama football. She didn't even know we had a team. He earned his right to announce our games and to be a part of our program. I just feel as if there were a thousand different options than her. Reece Davis would have been my pick, or Joe Willie.
