The University of Alabama is suing former wide receivers coach Mike Groh, according to a suit filed Thursday morning with the Circuit Court of Tuscaloosa County.
The complaint states Alabama wants the buyout of Groh’s $285,000 contract, which amounts to $57,000 (20 percent). The contract stated Groh had 14 days to pay the buyout, which he failed to do.
“The head football coach elected not to waive the liquidated damages to be paid,” the suit says, which means Groh is responsible for the paying the buyout.
According to the suit, Groh “has refused and continues to refuse to pay” despite written requests for payment.
Groh was Alabama’s wide receivers coach during the 2011 and 2012 seasons before accepting the same position with the Chicago Bears.
