Might have to go back to the thinking of Coach Bryant.

Recruit talented players but perhaps not 5*'s and get them to play at 110% of their ability. The 5* playing at 80% of their ability.

There is NO DOUBT that Coaching these days is a struggle with the kids coming into college and it is only going to get worse.

Those coaches that can find a combination of talent and character will be the winners.

So what's the answer now in this new era of college football? Do you limit your HS recruits to 15-20 in order to make room for more transfers? The problem with that is while you may add more veteran depth, you lower your chances of finding good HS kids that you can develop. Also, if you have more additions to the portal, your HS kids that don't play will portal out immediately. In the fun era of CFB the system worked because you recruited good HS players who came in, worked hard, learned the system, and were ready to contribute by year 2 or 3. Along the way they provided valuable depth because they were in the system, had practiced and learned, and, if they weren't good enough to be starters, they were good enough to play when needed. And if you recruited 25 HS kids and 10-15% turned out to be duds, you still ended up with at least 20 good HS kids who could be real contributors and eventual starters. Now it's "can we recruit good players, keep enough of them from leaving to maintain decent depth, and fill holes from the portal as needed." Ugh what a mess. And don't forget you have to pay them to keep them happy. It really sucks.

Before NIL, 30% of the players in each recruiting class never played a meaningful down. Just recruiting mistakes. Of Nick's 85 players each year, he has 60-65 that were players and depth. Don't confuse depth with a player with a jersey with his name on the back.

Not quite that bad. I'd say he milked a hurt/sore shoulder during the week, but then got mad on Saturday's when he wasn't getting all the carries over Miller (who always showed up ready to work).

That pisses me off, because I felt he was holding himself to a higher standard than that crap. He was my guy out of that class and wasted my autographed Yea Alabama item on him, and that kind of effort pisses me off.

I have a nice card of his that is now worth less since he's in a Bama jersey (maybe not by too much if he balls out). Point is we can't get too invested in player merch these days.

Saw where Bama is bringing in Jason Jones as an analyst.

Former Bama player and GA. He has also worked with Wommack previously, so there is familiarity in several areas.

The way they worded it.. it sounded like assistant to secondary

Mando, nobody is going to satisfy your concern, and I wonā€™t even try because I can tell you are set in your worrying and nothing will abate that for you. Worrying is unhealthy, especially when itā€™s over entertainment. But something to consider here, and nothing more. Jahmyr Gibbs had 740 yards rushing for Georgia Tech in 2021 before bolting for the Capstone (303 yards before that 2021 season). A 3-9 Georgia Tech mind youā€¦ In his career at GT he averaged 5.2 YPC (same average each season) and had 8 rushing TDs (5 receiving also). This Washington kid played for a better team, shared the load just like Gibbs at GT, had more yards, YPC (6.0) and had 9 rushing TDs and 2 receiving. Iā€™m not saying this kid is another Gibbs, but how did you feel when CNS brought Gibbs in? Same initial reaction? Louisiana was a much better program this year than GT was in 2022 when CNS grabbed Gibbs. Again, just a data point for measure.
It is what it is at this point. Just making observations. It may not sound like it in my post by I really do not worry about much in real life stuff. Just observing and trying to draw conclusions... As I said I stopped following recruiting under CNS. Why because he had a track record that he was going to bring in elite talent. Trust.... CKD I do not have the history with. Give hime 5+ years of elite recruiting and I will stop following also. With this dang NIL/Portal there is just so much churn. Whoever figures this out which includes finding the best players in the portal is going to be the most succesful. Hope we have that guy in Tuscaloosa right now.

It sure was nice to have that third string back who could punish a D late in the game, give the 1-2's time to rest, and get themselves ready for a 1-2 role.
