🏈 Alabama reportedly adds walk-on to help running back depth

Needing depth at running back, Alabama is turning to an in-state player.

Demetrice Vaughan, who recently graduated from Blount High School, will walk-on for the Crimson Tide this fall, TideSports.com first reported. His high school coach, Mark Hurt, told AL.com he hadn't heard anything concrete about the walk-on position, but he'd heard rumblings.

Back in February, Vaughan signed with Mississippi Delta Community College.

Listed at 5-foot-8, 214 pounds on the Alabama All-Star roster, Vaughan was added to the team when Pinson Valley's Nick Gibson was injured.

Alabama's running back depth has been thinned considerably in recent months. Last week, freshman DeSherrius Flowers was declared academically ineligible for the fall. That followed the transfer of Altee Tenpenny, the dismissal of Tyren Jones and Bo Scarbrough's spring ACL tear.

According to his Rivals.com profile, Vaughan was recruited by Alabama and then-linebackers coach Lance Thompson. Auburn, LSU, Georgia Tech and South Carolina also reportedly had interest, but he never received a scholarship offer.

Vaughan would join walk-ons Lawrence Erekosima, Hamilton Phillips andBuddy Pell on the Alabama roster.

I wonder what Altee Tempenny is thinking right now? I would have done exactly what he did probably, but this is exactly why you stick it out cause you never know when your number could be called. Just look at the attrition, the highly unlikely circumstances and it just goes to show you that it can happen anywhere, any time.
