🏈 Alabama prized freshman QB reportedly hospitalized since Monday

not football-related; he blacked out.

he was released today and will go have a couple more tests tomorrow. should be back full strength in a week or two.

Blood transfusions maybe serious, but....its hard to say it was too serious when he was barely in the hospital 3 days. most serious / critical stuff would put in him ICU for a minimum of three days, or a transfer to UAB.

Think blood loss. He was bleeding somewhere and lost blood, hence the need for the transfusion. That is pretty much it, in a nutshell.

Now that is a broad brush stroke I'm taking because generally speaking, when folks need blood it is usually pretty serious. While he is somewhat of a VIP, that may have had something to do with it. I know that they are doing stuff with plasma to help with speeding up the healing process of injuries, and it may have been along those lines, but with HIPPA, we will probably never know.

When I first heard he needed blood, I wondered if he was out playing with Mono. With mono you tend to have an enlarged spleen and liver and if you are hit right, it can cause you to bleed pretty bad. With a diagnosis of mono, you miss a minimum of 4-6 weeks. So the fact that he will be back next week rules that theory out altogether. I do find it odd that he needed blood and will be back in a week or so.

Someone on another board mentioned "bleeding in the stomach." It does make perfect sense. Men do not come straight forward, rushing out of the bathroom screaming, " I'm pooping blood." We tend to try to hide the fact, and hope it will "just go away" on it's own. If he kept waiting he might have finally passed out. ( Something else that was mentioned earlier.) If so it would be the perfect time for a roommate, teammate, coach, etc. to say, " Dude, your going to the hospital!" Also, if he waited too long his labs would have been bad enough for the Dr. to decide to give him blood instead of regular IV fluids. Blood, would mean an automatic hospital stay, but maybe not a trip to the unit.
I am certainly not saying 100 % this is what happened, just saying that it fits using the scientific method. ;-)

I can understand that....I don't agree with the method......but if he had a ulcer bleed....or infection in the lining of his stomach that was causing severe bleeding I can see where a doc would overreach for expediency.

It is always possible he saw no outward signs of internal bleeding. I was hospitalized for 4 days when I was a teen. First indication was when I felt really lightheaded one day and then passed out the next day after having some pains in the lower side of my back. All signs to the doctor were appendicitis and they sent me home the first day but admitted me the second only because my blood counts were getting worse. I was bleeding internally from ulcers but not showing any external indicators.

There are a lot of pro's and con's about using IV fluid as volume replacers. The main thing is saline, Ringers D5W...etc do not carry any O2 like the bood does. All it does, basically, is hold a space. Before they got hot and heavy with tourniquet use (again) I have seen patients bleed out pink. Some docs are opting for blood tx a lot sooner so the blood can do what blood's supposed to do. When I have more time I will tell my own "pooping blood story. (Nothing graphic, I promise.).

Dadgum I didn't know we had all these Doctors/Medical authorities on here. What a great benefit to being a member here.
Hey Last week I think I had a heart attack during the Arky Game somewhere in the third quarter. Can you guys prescribe me some Viagra or something to get my heart going again for the aTm game just incase I have another medical emergency? :rtrsign:Scotch didn't get it done
