šŸˆ Alabama Offensive Production 2021-2025

Was curious about our scoring offense the past few years. It seemed our scoring has dropped off some, but sometimes my eyes don’t tell me the truth. Decided to look back over the last 5 years. I took our defensive and ST scores, trying to measure just FGs and offensive TDs. Numbers should be very close. We have dropped off, my eyes were correct this time. I’m now curious how other teams have performed in the same period.

Of note. I only counted games against what I consider real schools. I took out the Mercer’s, E. Illinois, Chattanooga, those type teams. Did that for each year so it’s still apples to apples. Hell, we beat Wisconsin as bad as we beat some of those teams.

2021 - 38.4 PPG
2022 - 38.2 PPG
2023 - 29.5 PPG
2024 - 28.2 PPG
2025 - 24 PPG

Defenses are starting to figure out the high powered offenses? Is the drop the same across top tier programs? Are we an outlier? CKD is an offensive coach, CNS was known more for his defenses.

Another interesting note, we haven’t had a special teams TD the last 2 seasons, that I could find. The last one I saw was Caleb Downs return. But I could have missed one. Man I miss Waddle, Cyrus Jones and Christian Jones!

Here’s some info on our special teams, not that we need confirmation. Mid-way through the year we were pretty bad bad all stats but we’ve gotten worse. We talked about some on the lead up to UT. ESPN had us ranked 92 at the time, now we are 100. Can’t get much worse…. Event Terry’s ā€œefficiencyā€ metrics site has us now at 99 (out of 136 teams). They had us at 27 before UT, they finally saw the light! It’s impressive that we could win games with such bad ST and no run game.

Prior to UT, ESPN ST rankings in narrative and bcftoys ranking in narrative for Bama

Fair catches at the 5, returning kickoffs that they have no business retuning, shoddy kickoff coverage at times, giving up an easy blocked put yesterday, bad snaps all season long, and a roll of the dice FG kicker and punter. I think they've had fewer special teams penalties this season, so there's that... but there is a ton of room for improvement. Being mediocre at best isn't ideal in a league where so many games are decided by 1 score.

I probably sound like a broken record, but imo, it comes down to, for whatever reason, our o-line play has digressed. Not sure if it's due to poor evaluation in recruiting, player development, play calling or something else. I really hope we can hit the portal hard for offensive and defensive linemen. Like we've seen at times this year, if you can run the ball and stop the run, it makes the passing game and defending the pass so much easier
