🏈 GAME THREAD Alabama Mounts a Late Second Half Comeback to Hold Off Louisiana Tech, 77-74 (6-1 overall.)

Do we even practice free throws? Maybe try a hypnotist??
Collin and Ingram got us home tonight. This one will be good to count as the season progresses. But it was the mother of all ugly wins.

This is the second game I've listened to this season that Wimp Sanderson called and one thing is an absolute, he doesn't like this Alabama team. What a horses ass most of the evening. It was bad enough trying to claw our way back in it all night but that guy never, ever stop looking at the game from LaTech's position. Bama had to suck it up coming down the stretch and made some spectacular moves around the basket and Wimp wasn't haven't any of it. That was about as disappointing as the game itself for me.

Think maybe seeing the potential of THIS team and how well of a recruiter AND x/o coach AJ is, that maybe he feels his legacy might be surpassed, IE, he jelly?

We are dead last in the SEC shooting FT's at 61%.

Down the stretch we hit FT's shot 73% for the game much better than 61% for the season. Also out rebounded them 43-36.
Seven games in and there are two games being held against this team right now: .375 from the line against Lipscomb and .533 against Alabama A&M. The other five games this team has shot .625 or greater with the last three games over .700.

I get where you guys are coming from. I suspect you're jumping too quickly. We've seen a few guys have horrible nights which threw off percentages--A LOT. Giddens 1 for 7 against Lipscomb is a great example.

If I may add...what was that, 13 straight FT's to end the game? I'll take that.

I guess Bama basketball cant compete with ole Ms womens BBall on the sec network....
What a piece of crap...and i have to pay for it...

You sure you were on the right channel? I had it up on my WatchESPN app ... never looked at the TV to see if SECN+ was airing it like advertised.

Y'all must not remember much about ol' Wimp. He has always been a curmudgeon of the highest order.
I'm still of the opinion he holds a little angst about the way he was supporting Grant and how that turned out.

Dazon Ingram and Collin Sexton each poured in 22 points as the Crimson Tide improved to 6-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –
The No. 24-ranked Alabama men's basketball team used a second half surge to outlast Louisiana Tech, 77-74, Wednesday night in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (6-1) knocked down 13 consecutive free throws in the second half to help spark a 17-9 run over the last 4:31 to secure the victory.

Sophomore Dazon Ingram tied a career-high with 22 points, hitting 13-of-17 free throws on the night, and added nine rebounds, while freshman Collin Sexton also contributed 22 points to go with three steals and three assists. Junior Donta Hall was very efficient on both ends of the floor, scoring 15 points, with a season-best five dunks, collecting seven rebounds and blocking four shots.

Alabama handed Louisiana Tech (5-1) its first loss of the season and held the Bulldogs to 36.9 percent shooting. The Crimson Tide outrebounded the Bulldogs 43-36.

"It was a terrific second half for our team, I'm really proud of them," head coach Avery Johnson said. "Those guys that were in there in the second half played both ends of the floor. They were hustling and they played with a lot of passion. We finally started playing a little bit smarter and took better care of the ball. I was proud of the performance by Dazon (Ingram) because it started with him, and Collin (Sexton), in terms of the backcourt, the way they dominated, getting to the basket and making shots for us while also making good decisions. Then Donta Hall was in there rebounding for us and catching those short passes from those guys, being ready."

The Tide seized the momentum at the end of the first half by using an 8-0 run over the final 2:09 to trim a double-digit lead to just 1, 38-37, at intermission. However, Tech came out of the break hot, going on a 9-0 run over a 3:45 period for its largest lead, 48-37, at the 17:08 mark.

Alabama then answered with a 9-1 run of its own to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 53-50 with 9:13 left. After Sexton tied the game up at 67-67 with 3:16 left on the clock, the two teams traded baskets down the stretch with four lead changes. Senior Riley Norris converted a put back layup with 1:18 left to play that gave Alabama the 71-70 lead. Ingram and Sexton would both knock down their last four free-throws to edge out the Bulldogs at the final buzzer. In all, the Tide converted 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) from the charity stripe in the second half.

The two squads posted similar numbers in the first half with Alabama shooting an even 50 percent (12-of-24) from the field while LA tech shot 38.7 percent (12-of-31) from the field. One of the main tales of the first stanza was on the free throw line as Louisiana Tech shot 10-of-14 from the charity stripe while The Tide went just 11-of-19.

Louisiana Tech held the lead for all but 50 seconds in the first half, and led by as many as 10 points, 29-19, in the opening 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs were led by Daquan Bracey's 21 points on the night, while Jacobi Boykens added 14.

Alabama will return to action Sunday, Dec. 3, when it hosts UCF. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

I came here to make a point about Wimp, but I see some comments about him already which makes me feel better. He is just awful to listen to. I know zero about him other than being our coach at one point. He just talked shit the entire game and sounded like a grumpy grandpa. I see what they are trying to do by adding him to the broadcast, but he is a negative Nancy and horrible to listen to. We played sloppy, but we had to fight through his crap to enjoy the comeback. Hope he's gone once we start hitting ESPN type games and competition.

Also, we're like six or seven games into the season. Our boys are still working to be a team and still getting some players fully healthy. I see why Sexton feels he has to carry the team, and that's generally what happens with a team becoming relevant for the first time in a while. Lean on one guy while others get up to speed and join him. He is making everyone around him better. I personally feel Hall is leaps and bounds better. Enjoyed his put back dunk last night, very much.

Yep...611..had ole ms womens bball onvs a nobody team...
Sure rating were out of sight for that...
The 611-1 had nuthin'
Weird. SECN had the Ole Miss ladies on last night. I saw that. It was listed on SEC Alternate here but I didn't check to see if it was on the TV. I was on my local providers web site and through that link went to the ESPN app on my 'puter.

Y'all must not remember much about ol' Wimp. He has always been a curmudgeon of the highest order.

I remember him well! I was there at UA from '89 thru '93 and he was an entertaining individual to say the least!! It didn't matter if it was Robert Horry, Latrell Sprewell, or James "Hollywood" Robinson draining one from deep, he ALWAYS had that pissed off look and tone in his voice!!

@TerryP to chime in on the "angst" that he seems to have after supporting Grant and what happened with him. I spoke with Coach Sanderson right toward the end of Grant's tenure. I asked him what he thought and he said that he felt that Grant had a disconnect between he and HS coaches around because of how he dresses and how he presents himself. He didn't think he would last because of that as far as getting the best talent. I wonder if the angst is more from Grant's teams seemed to play better on the defensive side and that was something that Coach Sanderson always held pride in his teams ability to play defense.

"...love that he wears his emotions on his sleeve...."

I noticed his emotions after those free throws as well. I was basically doing the same as he was as I watched on my phone. I was always one to wear my heart on my sleeve competition wise as I absolutely HATED to lose (even if it was a 20 game baseball season), so I love his fight. A little more of a trash talker than I ever was, but as far as fighting, I love to see it!

The BB game was not televised last night. It was only streamed on line and I was not able to get it. I have charter cable and had to jump through many hoops to set up a user name and password, which I did, only to find out my name and password were not recognized. Needless to say , I was very unhappy. The sec alternative channel was showing NOTHING, and more useless than tits on a freaking fish.

I asked him what he thought and he said that he felt that Grant had a disconnect between he and HS coaches around because of how he dresses and how he presents himself.

You've mentioned this before. It was "who he is" that didn't connect, IMO. I can't say it was a lack of effort. I can say it was definitely out of his comfort zone. For some coaches that approach works--in some places.

Square peg, round hole.

I wonder if the angst is more from Grant's teams seemed to play better on the defensive side and that was something that Coach Sanderson always held pride in his teams ability to play defense.

Consider this. Last season Bama's defensive efficiency finished ranked #16 in the nation. In Grant's last season Bama was ranked 171st. Currently the team is in the mid 70's against one of the toughest OOC / pre-season schedules I can ever recall.

Is it perception versus reality? (Let's not forget we're watching frosh covering upperclassmen as well--talented or not, they are at a disadvantage from first tip.)

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The No. 24 Alabama men’s basketball team notched its sixth win of the season Wednesday night with a come-from-behind, 77-74 win over Louisiana Tech.

And in doing so, it added another quality win to its NCAA Tournament resume.

The Bulldogs are the nation’s 20th-best team in terms of RPI (ratings percentage index) and give the Crimson Tide its fifth win over a team ranked among the top 100 -- as well as a loss to No. 46 Minnesota, albeit it played with three players for 10 minutes.

Nonetheless, Alabama is piecing together a strong case for postseason consideration early in its schedule, as 11 of its 13 non-conference opponents are among the top 125 teams in terms of RPI. The Tide sits at No. 3 overall in the RPI with five games to go before SEC play begins, and the league currently has six teams, including UA, that rank among the top 68 in RPI.

Alabama non-conference opponents’ RPI rankings, per CBS Sports:

12. Rhode Island

20. Louisiana Tech

25. UT-Arlington

46. Minnesota

54. UCF

67. Lipscomb

69. Mercer

90. Memphis

91. BYU

113. Oklahoma

114. Texas

163. Arizona

332. Alabama A&M

Testing his young team to start the year was something third-year head coach Avery Johnson planned in the offseason in order to build calluses for the meat of the 2017-18 schedule.

“We easily could’ve had somebody else on our schedule tonight,” Johnson said. “We know how good and knew how good Louisiana Tech was. … Those guys can play at a lot of SEC schools, and they’re going to have a chance to either win their conference or come in second and maybe win their conference tournament. That’s what we’re about in terms of scheduling.

“We could’ve had a cupcake night, win by 30, everybody go home happy, or we can experience some adversity. And we experienced a lot of it tonight with Tech.”

Like I said yesterday, LaTech is no joke.

Sure, we shot ourselves in the foot in the 1st half with frosh mistakes, missed FTs and even some weird missed layups.

But to still be down 7 with just over 3 min to go and to claw our way to a win is a HUGE confidence boost for this team in terms of mettle and finding the killer instinct to will a win, especially for Dazon and Collin who were absolutely clutch in those final 3 minutes.

Texas and Arizona will NOT end up in the 140s and 160s. They'll end up being the best teams Bama plays before conference. Anybody watch Texas and Duke? Texas gave them all they wanted and more, going to OT.

Minnesota won't be 46 either.

Talking about Wimp's players. I think it was Sprewell and Horry we sat a couple of rows behind during the LSU/Bama football game in the early 90s. I should've gotten an autograph.
