🏈 Alabama kicker Adam Griffith named SEC special teams player of the week

If there was any concern about Alabama's kicking game entering the 2014 season, Adam Griffith had the answer Saturday.

After making all four of his field goals, the first-year starter was named SEC special teams player of the week on Monday evening. Griffith nailed three long-range kicks in the 33-23 win over West Virginia.

His first kick was the longest as Griffith connected from 47 yards on Alabama's first possession.

"I was nervous," Griffith said after the game. "As soon as I kicked it, I knew it was going in. I trust my holder and snapper. It was a good day."

Griffith added a 41-yarder on the final play of the first half, a 27-yard attempt in the third and another from 45 in the fourth quarter.

"The longer the better for me," Griffith said.

On kickoffs, Griffith had seven tries, three touchbacks and an average of 64.7 yards. Freshman punter JK Scott added two punts for a 50.5-yard average including a booming 62-yard shot on his first collegiate try.
