🏀 Alabama Improves to 10-0 in SEC Play with a 78-60 Win over LSU

Good D and a very quiet 78 points on offense. Gary had his best game of the year. This LSU team just does not play hard when their shots are not falling. Easily frustrated and then they are done.

Played well in the second half and answered for anything LSU tried to throw back on them. I love how this team can get a nice lead and keep it. Felt like a different style game, but the easy points paid off. Roll Tide.

The Crimson Tide used an 18-4 run to begin the second half as it sweeps the season series with Tigers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Five players scored in double figures and the reserves contributed 34 points to lead the No. 10/7 Alabama men’s basketball team past LSU 78-60 on Wednesday night in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (15-4) improved to 10-0 in SEC play with the victory, which is the second-best start in conference play in program history (1955-56 team finished the year with a perfect 14-0 record).

Guard Jaden Shackelford led the Tide with 19 points, while forward Alex Reese added 13 points and four rebounds. Forward Juwan Gary had career highs of 12 points and seven rebounds while guards Jahvon Quinerly and Keon Ellis both added 10.

The Tide used a big 18-4 run over the first 7:22 of the second half to turn a six-point 36-30 halftime advantage into a 20-point lead and cruised from there to the victory. It’s the first season sweep of the Tigers since the 2016-17 campaign.

LSU (11-6, 5-4 SEC) was led by Cameron Thomas’ game-high 22 points on the night.

Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments

“I thought this was a quality win. We obviously didn’t play well offensively as far as shooting the ball. We had a few too many turnovers, but we have to find ways to win when we’re not hitting threes. LSU came out and guarded us a lot better than they did the first time. We kind of expected that. They have some pride over there and what we did to them at their gym, we anticipated them playing us a lot better. We went 6-of-24 from the three, which was obviously not ideal. Jaden Shackelford and John Petty, two of the better shooters in the league, weren’t necessarily on fire tonight. I thought we did some other good things, outrebounding them by 16. I thought we did a really good job defensively. Cam Thomas got going early, with 11 quick ones and ended the game with 22. I thought the last 30 minutes of the game we did a good job on him. Trendon (Watford) goes 3-of-13, he ended up with nine rebounds and a lot of those were his own misses. I thought our guys did a really good job, especially without Herbert (Jones). I think Herb is the best defender in the league and he got four fouls, while still being banged up. Reese stepped in and did a great job on Trendon and Juwan Gary did a great job as well. It’s a big win and it creates some separation between us and the rest of the league.”

During the TTU vs LSU game this past weekend I saw the same thing from LSU as I did when Bama visited Baton Rouge: a lot of shit talk. Saturday it was primarily Smart and Watford talking when they had the game well in hand...until that 12-0 run.

If you'll recall it was getting pretty chippy when Bama visited LSU. I'm leary of the same tonight.
I'm not sure which story I find the most entertaining.

Is it, 1, how badly Watford lost his head when Bama ran through them like "shit through a tin horn" in Baton Rouge? Or, 2, the fact his mom was flipping off the student section last night? 🤷‍♂️

Now...seeing four walk-ons in the last few minutes of the game that's also in a season where Bama swept LSU? 😂

Rebounded a lot better ( Out rebounded LSU 51 to 35). Solid defense, Reece had a solid game on both sides of the court. Still too many turnovers (17). When Herb went out with his 4th foul the team didn't fold, they actually stepped it up and continued to spank that ass, If I'm not mistaken I don't believe Herb ever came back in the game after his 4th PF.

I didn't listen to the ESPN feed (commentary) last night and didn't sync the broadcast so I missed this...

In the post game I heard that Chris Stewart said, "Bama shows that coaching takes more than standing around clapping" when referring to Wade. (Damn, reminded me of DuBose as soon as I read the comment.) Along with comments like "a strong (dramatic pause)...win" for the Tide.

It sounds like he was having a hell of a time talking about the win. I'm disappointed I missed him.

After the little hiccup last Saturday against a rising Oklahoma squad, it is nice to see our men get back on the winning side. It is so nice to have a competitive team on the floor. I am looking forward to what we do the rest of the season and in the future.

You okay this morning? An 18 point win has to be a little disconcerting! 🙃
Yes it was, should have been 20 and they are slipping since it was not 30 :). Honestly only a couple of times did I get irritated last night. Some of the wild dribble and sling it up shots gets annoying and how they closed out the first half. Other than that I was pretty relaxed. LSU's shots were not falling some of it had to do with Bama's defense which continues to be good and consistent. Not all contributed to defense some was on LSU's poor shooting. Either way no matter what Bama was doing LSU could not eat into the lead because of their poor shooting. Said this above when LSU's shots are not falling they let it effect their defense and their effort. My view is Wade will not make it more than another year or two with his shenanigans.

I love nothing more than Watford having trouble against the team he spurned for the money. I try so very hard not to root against young guys working to get better and trying to carve a future out for themselves, but this asshole is the exception to my rule. He runs his mouth so much it's easy to hate him. Add in the fact he isn't performing to the level of a five star recruit, and it just screams frustration that his game has not elevated like it should with a guy that was tabbed a one and done player. He has padded his stats against some weaker opponents, but is struggling big time against top level talent. Him running his mouth about making it to the NBA and our guys not, and then his momma making a scene at the game last night per TerryP, and I am just glad he went elsewhere and became someone else's problem.

@rick4bama , LSWho? set out to defend the three, which they didn't really do earlier, so Bama kept going after layups. Once Wade'$ defen$e shifted down low, Bama started popping threes.

I'm not sure which story I find the most entertaining.

One of the best moments of the game was the one time Watford screwed up the shot clock management. He was being booed all night, which is probably set his mother off (that's a shame...), and he told his coach after the shot clock turnover that he couldn't hear his teammates. Man, imagine if Coleman was full. His mother might have a stroke from her anger with the crowd.

What set her off?
Getting moved out of their seats by season ticket holders likely didn't set their night off on the right foot. Chants of "Show me the money" at Wade and Twatford caught the "bird."

I didn't see it happen. I saw a few posts talking about it after the game as well as Cecil saying it in his timeline.

Normally I find it sad when I run across people with no self-awareness. This group? Not even a tinge of empathy, much less sympathy. Everyone in collegiate basketball knows what Wade has been up to in Baton Rouge. Everyone at LSU and Bama knows what happened with that family and their circle. For them to get upset about it all? Ha. 🤡
