TUSCALOOSA — A month ago, in the midst of some stunning road wins at Florida and LSU, Alabama was getting strong NCAA tournament consideration...

First-year Alabama head coach Avery Johnson once again made his team’s case for being one of the 68 teams to earn NCAA Tournament bids after the 85-59 loss to Kentucky. He pointed to wins against four ranked teams this season, including against then-ranked Wichita State, Notre Dame, South Carolina and SEC co-champion Texas A&M — three of which came on the road.

ā€œI’ll put our resume up against any team in the country or any of those teams that’s on the bubble watch,ā€ Johnson said Friday evening.

ā€œI really love our resume. So whether it’s NCAA Tournament, NIT, or whatever it is, I’m hoping that we can make it to some postseason tournament.ā€

With the recent run of losses, the Tide (18-14, 9-9 SEC) quickly fell from among the ā€œfinal four inā€ to completely off the NCAA Tournament bubble, according to most of the Internet prognosticators, including ESPN.

ā€œFor us to do what we’ve done this year has been (nothing) short of amazing in so many ways,ā€ Johnson said. ā€œAnd that’s not an excuse, that’s just the facts. The numbers don’t lie.ā€
