Alabama freshman running back out indefinitely with foot injury

Alabama freshman running back and kick returner B.J. Emmons has a sprained foot and is out indefinitely, Tide coach Nick Saban said Wednesday.

Emmons has been Alabama's primary kick returner in recent games.

For the year, he has a 26-yard kick return and has rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown as a reserve running back.

Another running back, Bo Scarbrough, missed practice Wednesday due to an illness. He's day-to-day.

So is injured offensive lineman Alphonse Taylor, who is still working back from the concussion he suffered against Arkansas Oct. 8.

Grade 2 and 3 sprains have ligament damage, but normally don't require surgery and if they do, it's typical to wait months to see if non-surgical treatment works first. However in this case, surgery may not be "required" but would afford a quicker/stronger recovery if preformed or it may be that there is a bone fragment or ligament particle in the joint that needs to be removed. When they said sprain and indefinitely out, it should have been a strong hint it was at least a grade 2 and most likely a grade 3. Hope he recovers well!
