🏈 Alabama eyes store over possible infractions

should we be worried about this? there is a picture floating around the message boards of TRich signing a jersey with a price tag on it.. how can a player know the intentions of the person whom he is signing the jersey for.. i could take a jersey to fan day and have them sign it and then sell it couldn't i?

Alabama instructs local business to back off

Alabama's compliance department sent a cease and desist letter late last year to T-Town Menswear at University Mall asking the business to end any use of the likeness of Crimson Tide players in advertisements, a potential violation of NCAA rules.

oh god...

i know back in January, i went to the big ass mall in Birmingham and there was a vendor in the food court (mexican lady) that was not only selling autographed pictures of guys like Trent and Julio and Donta but autographed cards and autographed jerseys of Ingram, Richardson, and another player that I cant remember. They were the Pro Combat jerseys and even had the names stitched on the back (which i didnt know were available) and they were "autographed". i was worried that they were BS because they were only $100 when the Pro Combat Jerseys were $80 not autographed and with no names on the back. god i hope nothing like this gets our players in trouble. i saw the picture of Richardson signing the jersey but i just thought it was a jersey someone bought and he was in the store and signed it. crap.

It's definitely easy to get upset about a story like this. The track record of some of the compliance "oversights" around the NCAA gives anyone reason.

By all accounts the UA compliance department has been monitoring this for awhile now.

I know "classes" have been conducted on this since the Ohio State and AJ Green stories broke in the past year. I know this because I was giving the father of one of our players a hard time a few weeks ago when we were talking about Ohio State and tattoos. I was giving him a hard time along the lines of "who would even want a jersey signed by XXXXXX? Has he even gotten one dirty outside of practice yet?"

That exchange led to him telling me about further education some of our high profile players have received.

I don't know what is worth. Fans getting all "atwitter" over twitter and Facebook things or rivals pushing stories like this to the forefront.

One thing for certain, this isn't "breaking news" to our compliance department.

My only beef with the whole story is the fact there have been conversations about Tom over the last few years and his store front displays among other things. I guess people from our compliance department don't shop in the mall.

I can't say I blame them. I HATE malls. Thank God for outside entrances to stores like Belks or I wouldn't even go in there. (free shipping for orders over $99 and you can almost spend that on one dress shirt.)

OH, Chase—T-town News—has tried to get comments from Tom about all of this. No response on Tom's end yet...not that I'm surprised.

And, with Clay Travis launching his new site, I'd expect to see things like this in the future. He's admitted, in this case, he didn't bother researching the subject any further than the original email/note he received about it. I'd guess he's going to take the same path as SBB and throw up enough stories, no matter how truthful or not, to get his name out there.

Hey, that process works if you want to market your site despite losing any credibility it may cause.

Yeah I already cant stand this dude. apparently it was him who asked Tebow the "virgin" question at SEC Media Day a few years ago (y that matters in football who knows), but I asked him point blank after he had taken some shots at Alabama fans (on twitter) why he didnt 'nut up' and ask Richardson to his face about this stuff...he didnt respond.

Lol @ nut up

Birdman, the signed jerseys are a non-issue. Dealers have access to the numbers to make the pro combat jerseys in whatever manner they want. A dealer I work with at times sells Julio pro combat jerseys for $100 that were signed in front of us in Huntsville at the recent signings. He bought the jersey and the numbers and put the name on himself. While we could do current players, we don't but as long as the university and/or the player don't profit, it is a non-issue.

As for your lady at the mall--they may be real but I would be skeptical as well. The cost of the jersey at retail wouldn't be a factor.

There was no way I was gonna get it without at least a certificate of authenticity which she didnt even know what was.

I have had a few Auburn fans claim that Marquis Maze took part in a commercial for this suit shop. Is there any truth to this?

Yes, and no.

Yes, in that Maze was probably in a video. Commercial? There was a youtube video Tom had up for awhile. It's been pulled.

I'll be so happy for the season to get here! Then some of this garbage will slow down. Seems that the Barners can't help but try and sling mud this direction since Cheezit got "bit@# slapped" in Destin.
