With 18 verbal commitments already on board and six months remaining until National Signing Day, we break down the top remaining targets on the board for Alabama in the 2014 recruiting class.
1. Leonard Fournette, RB, 6-1, 225
The 2014 class is rich with future NFL-caliber linemen but no other player in this cycle is more dangerous with the football in his hands than Fournette. The nation's most dominant offensive playmaker, Fournette will visit several schools this fall but most believe his decision will come down to either staying in his home state with the LSU Tigers or joining the list of recent superstar running backs in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has passed on several other elite backs in the hopes of landing Fournette so Nick Saban and his staff appear to feel confident in their chances to land the New Orleans star.
2. Cameron Robinson, OL, 6-6, 300
Rated by some services as the nation's No. 1 overall prospect, Robinson is the prototypical franchise left tackle, the kind of player you can build an offense around. Like Fournette, Robinson is likely a two-horse race between LSU and Alabama with the Crimson Tide holding an early advantage with the massive tackle.
3. Da'Shawn Hand, DE, 6-5, 247
Alabama has come achingly close to landing the nation's last two superstar defensive end prospects in Jadeveon Clowney and Robert Nkemdiche and hopes not to strike out this time when it recruits this Virginia pass rushing monster. Hand has Alabama among his top two along with Michigan and will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa this fall before making his decision in early November.
4. Lorenzo Carter, DE/OLB, 6-5, 232
Perhaps the most impressive overall athlete in the 2014 class, Carter is the state of Georgia's top prospect in 2014 and has received lots of personal attention from Kirby Smart over the course of his recruitment thus far. Carter's mix of outlandish athleticism (including a 40-inch vertical) and unparalleled instincts make him an ideal prospect for outside linebacker in Smart and Saban's defense. Alabama will battle nearly every major program in the Southeast, including Georgia and Florida, for Carter's signature.
5. Marlon Humphrey, CB, 6-1, 175
It almost seems unfair when the nation's top cornerback (Nick Saban's favorite position) lands in Alabama's backyard (Hoover High School) and happens to be the son of a former Crimson Tide great (Bobby Humphrey). That said, Humphrey has been unusually quiet about his recruitment and raised eyebrows recently with a visit to Mississippi State. Is Humphrey the slam-dunk Alabama lock that everyone assumes he is?
